    CWC 1980 Reissue - s/h value?

Idle musing early on a Saturday:

Anyone had sight of how well the CWC 1980 reissues hold their value?

They don't. I bought mine for £2k from Silvermans a few years back and think it sold for around £1,300.

They are heavily over priced to start with, easily available and you will take a bath if you sell. Same with the 1983 Quartz diver, £900 new and I have bought a couple around the £600 mark.

But once discounted, they seem to hold that value?

Buying My 1980 dark lume reissue new is definitely not my best financial decision, however until I can track down an issued watch from 1980 (at a price I am happy with) its the next best thing.
They are better quality with improved fit and finish over the standard watches.

I recently splashed out £900 on a new 1987 SBS reissue and wouldn't expect to get anything like that on resale.

I sort of knew that anyway so bought it with the intention of keeping and beating it up for a few years

The issued numbers on the back stated 077 / 19 and not an 83. The sale has now ended .

    I would agree with this.

Buy one second hand that has already taken the hit and it is a risk free purchase from the financial point of view.

Surprised to see the 83 mentioned above go for that price - can only assume it’s a bit of desperation cos they are still sold out and the new batch not available yet. I’ve always thought somewhere around 650-700 to be the bench mark for them, not that I’m considering selling mine

Just checked the listing, this is a brand new watch only bought a few days ago. The seller also has an automatic which again is just a few days old.

Odd or just a few grand of buyers remorse?

    I think you are right.
I was tempted by the T dialled autos when that were ‘found’ but I don’t need another CWC diver.
If they were a non date I would have bought one and sold my L dialled auto. That said I put a scratch on it this week by dropping a Land Rover on it!

    CWC 1980 Reissue - s/h value?

Listening has ended now, feel like I’ve missed out there, but knew I’d have to be quick if I wanted it and I wasn’t 100% sure....

    I'm glad it's gone! I'm waiting for one of Eddie's PRS-29s

I don't get the pricing of these two though more than they cost new

😂 I was 50:50 and letting fate decide.. if it'd still been there tomorrow..

Useful data point though, and the thoughts on 1983 pricing, looks as though CWC divers of all types drop around 30% from new.

I think that once the initial depreciation has occurred they seem to retain their value, and then desirability. They were neither at the 2k RRP.

I’ve worn mine today, and think that it is a step up from the others in the range, has a greater visual attraction, does patina in very acceptable way, and could easily be a go-to watch.

Mine will go soon to fund other projects, but I like it enough to know that I’ll buy another when I can.

Just took a punt on an 87 reissue from the same chap.
Never even put one on my wrist before, but thought it'd be a neat way of trying one ...knowing it'll hold it's post-initial-depreciation value👍

Squad average in this thread indicated that it went for about the going rate - more will come along at the same sort of price, I'm sure 😊

    The thing is...
These non date black cased divers are not what anally retentive saddos like me want. They are not a reissue ‘SBS’ nor are they an issued watch. They are a nice looking diver but not much more.
As such I think the non date black case will always be a little cheaper, same for the mixed match cases and bezels etc.

The reissues of the actual issued watches will always have a bit of an extra pull but those like me that bought new will take a bath if we resell. If you bought a ‘stylised after’ version god help you.

Couldn’t agree more ... We’re not comparing like for like here. the reissue models - in particular those with automatic movements - whilst appealing to a smaller crowd, will always bring in more $$$s than the standard models.

For example, I bought my SBS day date from this parish in 2010/11 for - if memory serves right - less than 400 quid. List price at Silvermans was around 700£ I believe back then... Ten years later I might get a bit more as it’s a 2008 model with tritium dial, but that’s about it.

I find the old logo, the thicker minute hand and an automatic movement in general more appealing and would be willing to pay more. But not 2K£ but if 1.3-1.4K£ is the going rate, this little fan boy might add one to the collection sooner or later

I cant remember what I paid for my CWC its of no importance as I dont buy watches or anything for that matter with regard to the resale value.

Just buy it if you like it whatever it is and be done with it.

    They are a strange market
The reissues of the actual issued watches are vastly over priced new but once you take the hit they hold their price.
The watches CWC have produced that are ‘inspired by’ take an even bigger hit as far as I have seen.
They are all excellent watches but saddos like me want either the issued watches with the premium they bring or the reissues as a gap filler / less expensive alternative.
I say this as a CWC groupie...

kinda hi-jacking the thread here, but did CWC ever release a non-issued No-date Automatic Diver with Tritium dial as per of their general offering?

They're selling one to this day (https://www.cwcwatch.com/collections...39278691352662) but with Luminova dial...

Isn't what you describe, this one ? (No date was a drop down option)

    For clarity
The only issued CWC divers with an Auto movement were the ones issued in 1980 and 1981. Neither had a date. There were slight variations in dial and hand set use between the 2 years
The only CWC diver watch with a date to be issue is the SBS with Day Date.
