Sell BLNR to fund AP RO 15450?

Well predictably since I did my “potential final SOTC” thread the other day I’ve sold the DJ, looking to move the BLNR on and get in an AP RO 15450. My biggest watch regret is selling my AP RO 15300 about 12 years ago. Prices have moved on massively since then but I have always missed the AP, so have decided life’s too short and just to go for it...but before I get carried away and buy one is there anything else that I should consider for the same sort of cash? Or am I mad even to be thinking of one at current price levels? Is TZ going to be the voice of reason and talk me out of it!? Does BLNR + DJ41 = AP RO 15450...all subjective I know but would be interested in your thoughts.

    Thanks
    Mike

Sell BLNR to fund AP RO 15450?

The pricing moving higher shouldn’t hurt you at all since the watches you are selling have done the same surely. Personally I think you should do it as it’s been annoying you long enough

    Looking forward to the pics

Having also owned a 15300 a few years ago and selling on for a pittance compared to current market prices I’d also go for it Michael.

    Great watch!

Yeah do it. 15300 is a much nicer watch and if you don't do it the fact you are so keen to get another AP tells me this will end up bugging you. AP Royak Oaks are unlikely to plummet in value any time soon either

As I said in your "last SOTC" thread, two GMTs in a relatively small collection seems daft to me. Having owned the boutique edition 15400 in the past I'd say that you can't go wrong with either option, although the 15300 would be my choice of the two with it's marginally larger case size.

I was quite content for 9 months (long time for me) but getting the BLRO has mixed it all up. I think 4 watches is the sweet spot for me as anything more doesn’t get worn regularly enough for me to justify having it...and as you point out Tony could have more diversification and replace one of the GMTs.

So what should I be paying for a 2021 15450 from a dealer? I may have found one, just want a sense check is on what the market price is for these.

    Thanks
    Mike

If you do move your BLNR on @Craizeehair has a WTB and should be fairly local to you.

Re the AP I've been debating one for a while but I think if I do go high end I'd get something WG on Oysterflex. The AP would be the better financial decision I think.

I’d do it for certain. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I’d sooner get rid of the BLRO than the BLNR.

I really like the BLNR but the AP is a cut above. Go for it if you can!

You're not mad at all, I, like you had a 15300 back in 2009 ish and traded it for a 116613LB, massive regret. A couple of years ago after missing the AP I bought a blue dial 14790 to go with my 5167.

Ultimately the 14790 felt great but I was always conscious that it was a little small as as much as I tried to tell myself the proportions were great I knew that the 15300 was perfect. It wasn't long until the 14790 went and another 15300 arrived. Yeah I paid big money for it but its worth it all day long IMO and as other have said they only seem to be going one way so the sooner you buy another the better ;-)

Michael. Maybe consider the VC Overseas 4500v. Super adaptive with the three strap quick change option. The boutiques should be opening soon so you could try on for size? (And you’d have a lot of change left over!)

I'm with Martyn. VC OS so under the radar and very much in the same category of quality but without the (relative) price tag. Definitely worth a look in the flesh, as no photos do them justice.

Not easy to get hold of new from an AD at the moment though, blue or black anyway.

yes true. been looking for a blue chrono at the right price for a while now. I also want to see the Gen2 Chrono first before I decide. Still, the chase is half the fun.

I read that as saying the 15300 is larger than the 15400 but you must be meaning compared to the 15450.

OP, I'm assuming you're discounting the new 15500? Why, too large?

Indeed. (I actually found the 15400 a little too large, FWIW.)

Yep, I have small wrists so think the 41mm will be too large, plus won’t these more scarce and more £££ compared to the 37mm?

I’ve tried on the 37mm last year and it seemed quite a good fit for me.

I hear you Martyn, but VC has never done anything for me. Just something about the AP design that I just love, so that’s the one for me. Can anyone comment on target price?

Found a pic of when I tried on a 15450 last year. Size wise looks good!

look great! Price. Bit of a stab in the dark but I hazard - Dealer £23K or £19K or so new (but not so easy to get hold of). Maybe try boutique on New Bond Street?

Agreed, looks perfect IMO, 15450 is the one to go for. 15300/400 will wear a lot larger.

Based on that picture I would throw the BLNR in the bin and never look back.

Sell BLNR to fund AP RO 15450?

Opinion does seem to vary on size wearability, with some saying the 15400 is fine on their 6.5-inch” round wrists. The 450 does look right on you from that photo. Will you be going for white again? (Not sure if the 450 has matching date wheel, if not white the better choice IMHO.)

I dunno, AP’s feel somewhat fragile by comparison.

It will be, but something special for once in a blue moon is always nice. At that budget a WG Daytona on Oysterflex is also a consideration. Tough choice between those two.

I doubt you would get sellers remorse for letting go of the BLNR for the AP. Don’t get me wrong I love the BLNR. Life is too short to sit on the fence as this point of your watch collecting journey

Picked this up this morning, no regrets on moving the BLNR, over the moon with the AP. Managed to find one a few weeks old in unworn condition, so has the full AP 5 years warranty. Yes I paid a premium relative to the RRP but still happy to have an AP back on the wrist.

    Quick wrist shot

Quick pic against the BLRO. Looks similar in size but in reality wears a tad smaller.

If this is the outcome of doing a SOTC, I best dig my camera out..

I think the AP is a great addition to the collection and the size looks spot on.
