    ULEZ, Lahndan and Car Search

I live in East London, inside the ULEZ so need to switch my non-ULEZ compliant car by October.

I only cover about 7k miles a year but for weekends away I need decent space and so am running a (10 year old) Estate. I was thinking hybrid estate or SUV but I dont take much interest in cars so really have no idea where to start.

Any obvious recommendations that the group would like to offer?

    Thanks in advance

Skoda Octavia estate? We have a 2011 1.4 petrol and that is ULEZ compliant.

I think Autotrader has a 'ULEZ compliant' filter. You could add your other requirements and filter for ULEZ and see what tickles your fancy. Then come back for personal experience on particular models/use Pistonheads forum.

How about a Saab 95 Estate?

ULEZ compliant & cheap as chips: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-det...02012197246267

    Budget?

And depending on how often you use it have you considered car club and/or renting?

Budget is £12k. I did consider car club given my low mileage but i did that before when i lived overseas and disliked the inconvenience.

You've a healthy budget and there will be loads to choose from. If you have no particular interest in cars, perhaps start by whittling out brands/models you don't really like?

That budget gets you into electric if that’s of interest, a BMW I3, Kia Soul, Renault Zoe, Nissan Leaf, all around 4-5 years old.

Would you consider leasing? This is quite a good deal:

    SKODA Octavia Estate
    1.0 TSI SE Technology 5dr

    Petrol | Manual | FWD

    https://www.leaseloco.com/car-leasin.../2-36-8000-1-1

    Amortised cost: £233 per month

Why? ULEZ is primarily about the particulates (rather than CO2, MPG or any other metric).

My current car is a Passat Estate and I do like it, but from an environmental perspective I wanted to stay away from Diesel this time. I appreciate that at 7k miles per year I am not really the problem.........

There is a nice Passat hybrid model but seems a bit out of my price range. I'll take a look at the Skoda Estate though.

Plenty of Octavia Estates around for £12k. For that you could get a reasonable spec 2017/2018 estate with auto box, leather etc and a 1.4Tsi engine and under 50k miles. Great value cars IMO and cheap to run/maintain.

I don’t think the latest diesels that are compliant (the ones that need adblue I think, but I’m no expert as I don’t live near London) actually kick out anything worse than a petrol engine but I may be wrong.
