If you Google it you will find some pics.
Well as some of you may know I collected my Cartier earlier and ideally as discussed like to preserve the original strap as much as possible.
I’m not totally sure if it would fit but in you’re opinion would a NATO on a tank solo XL look daft? I was thinking maybe a bond style one or just a plain black one?
Any input welcome 😊
If you Google it you will find some pics.
I’ve had a look but not sure if I’m going to be doing something awful or not haha
Try it and see what you think says the man who is happy to wear a Datejust on rubber.
Really that’s quite cool and brave!!
I think it needs a croc strap, if strap you must.

Anything on a NATO is bad, a Cartier Tank on a NATO is criminal
Maybe a Santos. Maybe. But I personally still wouldn't.
Definetely not a Tank. Just my opinion.
NATO’s are for children’s watches. Get a grip.
Well luck has it I have a 22mm nato strap on one of my other watches so I will pop it on and get a few pics see what you all think, your probably right it will look cheap but cheeky not to try haha
Do it and revel in being a little different from the norm. You could probably find a narrow enough leather nato to be semi daring. Or commission an electric blue ostrich nato for all-out different!
That’s a good idea, never even thought about a leather nato!! I will have a hunt lol
Haha your probably right 😂
Try it. If you like it, stick with it. Who cares what others think, nothing wrong with being a bit different!
Normally I'd say "Ignore all the conformist bitches and go your own way sister", but the problem with a NATO specifically is it will start to produce a distinctive wear pattern across the case back, and that will spoil and devalue your watch. So if you do want to go fabric, go two-part - there are fewer to choose from, but at least you won't ruin your watch.
I wouldn't. Imagine this in black and it still looks naff imho:

I'm OK with the looks - but it would certainly be a lot better if it was actually the correct size.
Considering the Tank's design was inspired by an actual battle-tank, I really can't see why using a strap with a distant military history causes the conniptions that it does...
That’s a good point about caseback rub I never really thought of that as you got those 2 tram lines don’t you, I was thinking maybe a leather NATO best of both worlds then maybe?
Having seen the picture in the other thread (lovely by the way) I'm now more convinced than ever that you'd be drawing a moustache on the Mona Lisa.
Would you not be able to just source an alternative leather strap for it?
Well luckily one of my mates are heavily into watches so he’s got a few 22mm NATO straps I can try on it see how bad it does actually look as it’s hard to judge looking at them online. I will get some pics later see what everyone thinks
It's your watch so it will be good to do something that reflects your personal style. I think it's gonna look great, can't wait for the pic
I'm a big fan of NATO straps, but in my opinion this isn't the watch for one. But if it works for you who cares what others think.
I'm in the 'release the hounds' if you do it, category, but a small contrarian part of me doesn't actually mind the way it looks. The possibility of damage aside, do what makes you happy, life's too short.
This thread is crying out for pictures.
NATO seems too formal for such a sporty watch. How about a Bund strap? That would be the epitome of no-nonsense French function-over-form paired with the refined elegance for which Germans are so widely admired.
I think it would not be a good look but am willing to be convinced otherwise.
Well I tried it guys I think it looks pretty good I will get a pic tomorrow so you can all see, await the scary image haha
Get a nice vintage looking leather strap.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.
I really like Nato straps.
But only on watches that look as if they could have been issued.
It's too much of a clash of styles for me.
Thank you. Yes that’s a very good point where do you get it from? I want to preserve the original strap as it’s not in to bad of condition but if I wear it all the time it may knacker the strap
Why not just wear the strap the watch came with? It’s like keeping the plastic on your car seats - just use it and buy another one when it dies, or a similar one and keep the buckle so you can swap it to the new strap if you buy non- Oem. This watch belongs on a NATO - fixed bars make it the only option really, imho it just looks wrong on a Cartier.

Just looking at it, it probably wouldn't be my choice (of colours, not sure about the NATO itself), but I'm not you.
I stand by my previous comment, but that style might need a dose of 'I couldn't care less' attitude. If that's not you, or if you're getting too self-conscious about it, you might want to go with something more traditional.
Tip from fellow member ,I use helicopter tape on the case back when using E/O or nato strap.
I get the mixed opinions and wel own it, it’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea and I guess I do have a don’t care attitude I just wear what I want most of the time haha.
I have OCD with watches etc.. about keeping them as original as possible. I bought a caravan a few years ago and the plastics stayed on the seat until the kids decided to pull them off after about 6 months 😡
Don’t worry guys back on the original leather, test over haha
I bought an Offshore Professional from Marine Chronometer. Didn’t like the crocodile strap, didn’t like the lizard strap, never fiddled with the engineers bracelet so stuck it on a Nato. Lorne God Rest His Soul was devastated. Said it cheapened his watch. Still on a nato, but don’t wear it.
