    Gilt dial Explorer makes 31,000 at auction

    Whole chunks of my life come under the heading "it seemed like a good idea at the time".

    It's a 6150 with gilt chapter ring dial - and look at that minute hand.

    Condition of the dial would be critical.

    It shows again how important the small differences are. Below is the gilt dial Explorer that I picked up a few weeks ago...



    ...but mine is "only" a common 1016 and the gilt dial has no chapter ring, so very different value.

    As for the 6350, oooh......waffle dial, lollipop seconds hand and provenance galore! Wow.

    Yes, quite a good back story for this one, but the 1016 is just glorious!
