Thread: Where to find shorter straps?

    Where to find shorter straps?

    Morning TZ,

The standard 80/120mm straps are just too long for my wrist, with my most comfortable strap being 70/110 excluding buckle. I cannot find a decent selection of other sizes anywhere. It doesn't seem to be a filter on e.g. WatchGecko or the like, so it seems it's not that common a search criterion.

Does anyone have a usual haunt for straps that lets you choose the length?

    Hugh

Depends what sort of straps you're looking for but I've found more options on different lengths from some of the producers at the slightly higher end, such as Bulang, Atelier Romaine, etc.

Refreshingly, I bought a new Zenith recently, and it was only by chance via a diect enquiry to Zenith before the purchase with a couple of questions about the model, and them sending me back the spec sheet, that I found out the strap the watch comes on is actually also available in a size small as well as the standard regular. I've no idea why Omega et al don't offer similar choice?

Hirsch Duke medium size will fit the bill at 70 x 110, Cousins also do some in the 75/115 sizes.

The latest Hirsch Duke is harder than the ones I bought in years gone by (late 90s) but once they're broken in they last very well. Expect to pay £30 at Watchobsession. Frustratingly, they don't do the 19mm or 20mm lug width in medium size which annoys me, a 19mm would suit a couple of my vintage watches.

Cousins! Very good call, I'll have a look there.
The favourite strap I mentioned in the OP could well be a Hirsch actually, the stamp has faded a lot, but it would fit with what is barely visible. You're spot on about the unfortunate lug width limits - they seem to stick to providing different lengths only for a select few, at least of the non-garish Hirsch I've just looked at. It could well be that stock rotates, but if I see a 19 mm lug width medium, I'll give you a shout.

Yes indeed on the higher end ones - I've found a few now that visually seem quite expensive for what they are, but it could be that the devil is in the detail of those, and (hopefully) material selection.

I haven't actually checked if Grand Seiko do other straps for the watches I'm trying to get straps for, mainly because I imagine they'll be heavily inflated by the GS tax! But you're right, it seems most stick to a one size fits all approach, presumably to cut costs. Lovely that Zenith do offer them though.

Opposite problem here, I need a minimum combined length of 205mm so any longer strapmakers appreciated, especially for 19mm!

220mm here, but it's not clear if the 19mm are just out of stock, or never actually made...!

OP, thanks for starting this thread, I am also on the hunt for shorter straps.

Here is what I have found so far.

Itsguy recently directed me to this site:

    https://www.watch-band-center.com/wa...-XS-Miami.html

The Hirsch James is available in medium 110mm/70mm

    https://www.watchobsession.co.uk/col...s/hirsch-james

I've struggled to find 19mm straps in medium length.

I recently had The Strap Tailor make a strap for my GS and I'm very happy with the quality:

    https://thestraptailor.com/

As far as I know GS don't offer any choice of strap length. Most of them are too long for me although I've had some GS models that came with medium length straps.

Out of interest, which GS references are you wanting straps for?

I hope that this helps give you some ideas!

The strap is for a 21mm GS SGBE001, so it's a combination of the less common short strap plus the very much less common 21mm!

Thank you for the links - I'll check them out.

Regarding medium straps, have you tried Barton? They don't make it very clear, but some straps they send with two of the same side but of different sizes, meaning they cover from 5 inch to 8 inch with three strap pieces. Might be worth a check for you in 19mm? They're in the US, but do have some for sale on Amazon UK too.

Bit of a left field suggestion but I get eczema and can't wear leather straps.
I have been buying some very nice cork straps from here

    https://www.corkwatchstraps.com/

I have just sent an email with my order specifying the lengths I want and they have been most accommodating

Their default length is 75+115mm, which I forgot when ordering and now I have four straps that I wouldn't want any shorter for my 6.75" wrist.

I'd ask one of the strap makers on the forum such as Rich (Toshi), Pav etc to see what they could do based on their styles matching what you're after.

German manufacturer Kaufmann also does a wide variety of straps in 115/75 mm length.
