Valuation advice reqd please ... for potential TZ SC listing

I’m considering selling my IWW (Jack Alexyon) ‘PVD’ customised 1968 Seamaster 300 … but a little unsure of price due to none similar being sold in recent years

Model 166 024 - 67; Caliber 565 … No service history … seldom worn and keeping good time; fitted with a ‘late’ model Omega Seamaster PVD deployant … sterile case back has one hairline surface mark visible when catches light ; Ω on crown; bezel action is fine; lume glows fine.

The 'quick-set seconds (crown pull-push-pull) is not functioning … date changes at midnight ... date can be advanced by turning hands to 00.20 and than turning back to 20.40 ... then turning forward to midnight again ... then to 00.20 ... etc etc

No IWW papers. The custom bezel is ‘in the style of' Tornek-Rayville https://shop.hodinkee.com/products/1...29410898903115

Any suggestions / price guides appreciated. Will likely be listed on TZ UK SC … this is not a sales post; any offers will be politely declined.

I’ll add a reply to this post advising when listed on TZ SC

    Thanks for reading

I wouldn't have thought it would be more than a couple of £2k. It can't be changed back now so someone would have to love it as is and there appears to be some mechanical issues.

This is right up my street! Considering watchco a now span from 2.5 to 3.5 k I wouldn’t think this is worth more than them.
Case also seems to have some pitting between the case and the caseback so water resistance might be compromised.
However, it is unique and very nice! So hopefully it will find a good home!

That's quite special, very much like it. Got to be worth what a Watchco example is worth...

Some will love it, many will hate it - It's certainly a marmite watch - so it's going to be a case of think of a number, and then double it, and wait to see what you are offered on SC, or stick it on ebay and see where it ends up.

Thank you for your responses / opinions. I emailed Jack Alexyon at IWW this afternoon and he has confirmed that it is one of his custom Seamaster 300 watches ... furthermore he advised that the TR bezel inserts were made for IWW. Thus have some proof of provenance ref IWW's customising. IWW (Jack Alexyon) is one of the most respected and best known USA PVD specialists. PVD watch customising is popular in the USA. J.A.only offers watch customising / restorations for quality watches ... he does not work on e.g. Asian watches or fashion watches https://www.internationalwatchworks.com/about

The pump calendar not working is a common cal 565 issue and the part is kind of expensive (relatively) from Omega. It is not generally available and it is often left broken. It doesnt bother me, but some might care. Omega accredited will service the watch, but it will cost standard omega prices.

In my opinion the pump calendar doesnt lower the price of the watch.

It’s a really nice watch but a bit niche, It is something I would like to own.
I think you will have to put it up for sale at a price your are comfortable and let the market decide it’s value.

I appreciate it’s not the point of this thread but I feel really conflicted about this watch. I think it looks really good but the fact that it’s a redialled, PVD-coated vintage classic also gives me jitters (unless I’ve misunderstood).

Either way, great to see it on here and GLWTS, hope you get what your hoping for, it’s certainly a rare bird!

Omega should just go ahead and reissue the military SM300 without any modern reinterpretations, like they did for the SM48.

Reluminizing is IWW's speciality https://www.internationalwatchworks.com/reluminzing ... they make a good job of it ... dial is certainly glowing well after charging with an LED torch

I love it, although to be honest I would have preferred it is they had commissioned the manufacture of Omega style bezel rather than a T-R one.

But we have to face the fact that customising old watches is a niche game with a niche market. In general, the market loves originality, not unique customs.

As soon as you customise, the number of potential buyers drops by a large factor, so I cannot see the price being equal to a Watchco example, even if this is a 67 case (shame no hippocampus remains on the outside).
Of course (as with the Rolex customisers) there is a market in "unique pieces" and one can imagine (in the right establishment) seeing this priced above original examples, but the number of buyers at that price will be minimal.
And here (TZ-UK) SC is pretty conservative, so I am not sure one could really push the price too hard.

I love a good PVD custom, and Jack is very well regarded, so it will sell, I am sure, but it may need exposure to a wider audience if you need a good return on it.
