Honda Type R must be up there. I'd have one over any mentioned here. 😁

Porsches and Caymans getting mentioned a lot so surprised no one has mentioned this model:

    Porsche Cayman R

It was only made for 1 year between 2011/12 and very rare. Only 4 for sale on Autotrader just now and prices seem to be exact same as when I bought mine 18 months ago. Also an automatic, very usable, new enough not to worry too much about any specialist or extra/costly maintenance it and could happily live on a drive. Happy to share more on ownership or buying experience of it becomes a contender..

Cayman R is a good shout.

Land Rover Defenders (not the new one) are holding good residuals.

    Very good shout.

It doesnt fit the OPs brief, but you wouldnt lose money on a Lotus Europa SE. Good look finding one though! (I should have bought one a few years back when I had the chance.)

Agree on the Cayman R, excellent suggestion, very few about mind and most of those have Comfort seats which is simply wrong in my book - a Cayman R needs buckets.

I once test drove an NSX Type S which had fixed back bucket seats (which I found out later were astronomically expensive if sourced from Honda) and decided not to proceed with the purchase because I simply didnt like the seats, I found them far too upright for my driving style. I drove there in the NSX that I owned with all intentions of doing a part-ex but the seats just werent for me.

Can't comment on the buckets in an NSX (I've only driven one) but Porsche bucket seats are superb, and imo far preferable to the Comfort seats. Esp. in a car like the Cayman, let alone an R.

I love the 80's classics but not being able to use a garage would put me off buying one. Another vote from me for a Porsche Turbo.

Yes, my brother has a 911 and although it's quick it's not that comfortable or practical .
The Type R is both quick, comfortable, cheaper to run. Switchable modes.
If I drove to London in a 911 your back will suffer (from where I am).

Honda Type R's are good cars but with the OP's budget, he would still have circa 45K to play with.

But the OP never mentioned practical? Plus only 6k a year miles so not commuting long distances in and out of London either? Also in my experience Porsche seats are really well designed and comfortable, the 911 is designed for travelling distance in comfort?
Ive had my fill of VTech engines and found them painful to drive having to Rev the nuts of them everywhere to achieve the max. Good run at first but after a while grew tiered of it. Porsche is a classic, has a strong loyal following and more importantly, as the OP mentioned will hold its value well if not increase in value over time if looked after.

I know what Id rather have with my 50k

Try telling that to a business man I know who has permanent back problems when he drove back from the South of France in his.
Might be your choice, which I respect but not mine.

Good shout. I did 80k miles in mine and never got bored of the soundtrack. It will surely hold value well as V8s are phased out.

All Porsches have Recaro seats. They worked together for ages.
My 35 yo Porsche is currently getting reupholstered and also gets a set of heating mats installed in the seats. There is new foam being put in as well.

Like most manufacturers Porsche offer different seat options - some are more comfortable than others.

I dont hink the budget helps, I think they are more obvious options at higher (GT3, SLS, pagoda SL) and lower (Z4M Coupe, Evo 6 Makinen, 968CS).

Atom 4 will hold value really well, but youll have a long wait for a new one.

Aston Vantage maybe, or a Morgan?

OP, have you seen how much Ferrari California's have dropped to, I was surprised, front engine'd Ferraris always nosedive but these are now in the High 50's if its a weekend toy running and servicing cost wont be stupid, but MPG is rubbish.

Ive not seen an Audi R8 mentioned. Original Mark 1 hasnt depreciated in years. V10 Manual would be my pick (I owned one for a while).

Porsches have Recaro seats as standard.
I can hardly believe they would be so bad.
Probably the chap mentioned had underlying issues.
