    Spinnaker Watches

I have just been looking at the above watch web site, they look very nice. Has anyone on here had any experience with the said watch.

Yes. I bought a quartz chrono but can't remember the model. It looked pretty good quality in the pictures but in real life it was pretty poor tbh.
I returned it for a refund without any issues.

I own a Spinnaker Cahill - don't know if all their watches are as well put-together (from the ^above^ evidently not all!), but it is a really nice thing, with good-quality fit and finish, and the brightest lume of any watch I own. It tends to be a high-days-and-holidays watch, because I dread damaging the goldy-looking PVD finish, but it always starts-up the moment I move it after weeks unwound, and keeps excellent time. Can't fault it.

Spinnaker have some killer sales - esp. Black Friday - mark-downs as high as 75% off.

    One man's well-made is another's shoddy.

But with a no quibble return you can always try one.

I've not had one, but have often thought some look attractive.

The one thing (probably) that's discouraged me the most is someone commented that the (some?) dials look very plasticky in 'person'.

With their sales, though, they seem to have occupied the space CW once did.

The fact they sell them on Ideal World would put some off but there again they also sell Eterna and Traser.

Having no idea what 'Ideal World' is, it's not a factor for me.

Is it a sort of QVC?

I've no doubt some of the higher end one's they do will be of decent quality but I must admit the one I bought was one of the cheaper quartz chronograph and was intended to be a work watch.
As someone mentioned yes it actually looked cheap a d nasty in person. Plasticy dial very poorly made cheap hands and even at £136.00 it wasn't worth anywhere near that in my opinion.

They do a few nice looking auto's but I think I would buy second hand rather than full price to try one.

Bought one about a year ago, disappointed tbh and never wear it. Should have returned it but never got round to it.

I’ve had one it was the divers with the subdial seconds I can’t remember the model name but it was well put together on a nice leather strap, the only thing I would say negative was the line wasn’t amazing. I ended up selling it on at a loss as you do and bought a Seiko I think it was

I've just bought one of their Hull Chronograph quartz watches and I have to say I disagree with the review above. The quality is on par or even better than other watches in this price range (I bought it for £168). The only disappointing part is the strap, which is too thick and rigid for the watch, but cheap straps are to be expected at this price point IMO.

I for one have no regrets.

I haven’t had one, what puts me off is they look just like a catalog watch, but there again so do a large number of other micro brands especially on kick starter.
I’m more interested in micros using unique or what look like less generic cases and parts.
But they are keenly priced so why not.

Tried a handful of (quartz & autos) microbrands and was left disappointed in overall quality so moved them on (at a fair loss).

My "collection" is now mainly around the £500-1500 rado / oris / Hamilton etc kind of price point and the quality difference is most notable.

That said, I havent quite given up on micros, got a couple of kickstarter on teb way, a Nardi and a Mitch Mason. I'm hopeful that both will impress.

I don't think they are really aimed at the TZUK market, they're more aimed at the kind of people who might have walked into a Samuels on the high street, but are looking to buy online.

Like Steeldives (for example), they offer a high-looking spec for a good price (especially with the regular offers available).

But lots of people here (me included) do like to dabble with cheap watches and they do have some models that look pretty good in photos.

I compared them to CW some while ago and the use of high-quality photos is something that they have in common with CW - I never understand why so many big (and expensive) brands use such awful over-Photoshopped images of their watches, so much that they look more like illustrations or computer renders, when brands like CW and Spinnaker show what some good photographs can do!

I lusted after a CW Trident with an orange bezel for a long while, solely on the strength of the wonderful photos in ads in diving magazines - The watch itself proved a bit of a disappointment (I had a couple of early Tridents and didn't keep either long), but even after I moved it on, I was tempted to buy another when looking at photos!

Off at a slight tangent, but: Hear! Hear! A topic deserving of its own thread really. So many big names have awful, low-res, amateurish photos, or worse - nothing but digital renders, of which there are few things more misleading!
