    Jump-hour pilot's watches

More "Pilots" than "Military" but when you see what they were sold amongst... anyway, who would have thought? If you ask me, a bit hard to read, aren't they?

The early digital wristwatches of the 1920s and 1930s would typically have two to three apertures indicating the hour, minutes and in some cases seconds. The design has been described as a more austere timepiece that was fitting with the Great Depression....

... During the 1930s, these watches became more popular, often featured in ads emphasizing the tough nature of the watch. Some other manufacturers even went as far as describing these fashionable watches as “an armored watch” being strong enough that “a car could drive over it. For a period, they were advertised for (LINK) aviators in the United Kingdom.

    Not much use for navigation.
Reading elapsed time is not instinctive nor quick
Perfect for telling current time though.
I think ‘possibly used by a pilot’ as opposed to pilots watch.
The Schneider Mention is nothing but marketing I would guess, it was one of the biggest events of the time so everyone was trying to cash in on it.

Wow - fascinating as I must admit I hadn't realised that they went back such a long period of time but had always assumed (wrongly) that they were a late 60's/70's style for mechanical watches to combat the quartz digital/LED.

I've been eyeing the Yema Digidisc - which of course isn't true jump hour - and your post has made it even more likely now that I might decide to commit to a purchase of one of them.

Interesting that the ones you posted show the seconds as well - whilst the Yema doesn't - I understand that they were concerned the torque required to move 3 discs might adversely affect the reliability of the movement.

    Thanks again for posting 👍
