Thread: Which watch do you want that another forumite owns?

  1. #1

Which watch do you want that another forumite owns?

There are some VERY rare/unusual watches on this forum.

I often find myself jealous of others who have got hold of something that's out of my reach for a myriad of reasons be they financial, impossible to find or whatever.

I can list the white dial Omega snoopy (too expensive for what it is now), the AP Royal Oak (love it in others' pics, doesn't suit me/probably more than I'd pay), any number of Patek/RLS dress watches (can't justify a top class dress watch when I so rarely dress up), just off the top of my head.

But the one I think about more than most is Jocke's absolutely incredible W&F Watchsculptures.
I reckon it pops into my head most days and I look at his unboxing post once or twice a month.
Unsurprisingly, when I asked him if it was for sale some years ago he said no!

    This is the one:
    http://www.watchwallpapers.com/ws.htm
I'd post a pic directly but don't want to nick it without asking Jocke. I've thought of this in the middle of the night so decided I'd just post the thread while it's in my thoughts!

So, which watch does another member of this forum own that you'd LOVE, but know you'll likely never obtain?

Oh god yes. Add Jed’s watches in to that and I’m not sure I would crave another watch again lol.
It's just a matter of time...

I have relatively modest wants... if I were to have just one, it would be a Rolex Sea Dweller 116600, my favourite of only a handful of watches that take my fancy at the moment.

I’ve fancied one for years and twice passed up buying one at retail when they were available, like a prize plum.

    Fun thread!

For me, it has to be the Grand Seiko SBGR095.

I do not covet my neighbours ass neither do I covet his watch. I lead a simple life and enjoy what I have.

I agree with Mick shock horror...

I don’t lust over any other members watch’s and I am happy with the state of my collection, however My favourite watch owned by another forum member is Snowman’s Cosmonaut and I think the majority / all of Quietly's collection is fantastic.

Don’t know who owns it now but there was a lovely GP chronograph with rose gold Arabic numerals on here a few years ago...

Not a watch in particular, but whenever I miss out on something I'd really want from SC, I tend to check out H&V for who bought it just to work out if itks likely it will return to SC one day or whether it's gone forever!

I'd love a Rolex 5513 - the watch that got me interested in watches in the first place. But other than that, I am happy with the few I have got and looking at the various beautiful watches that people here own - the Friday thread is great for that!

Oh yes - I too would love to be able to photograph my watches like the resident experts :)

Can't remember who had it, but there was a Blancpain Air Command doing the rounds a while back, and it's the best looking watch I've seen on here.

I'm happy with what I've got and rarely see anything that makes me think about selling to acquire. I tend to pause on anything with lovely aged tritium or an unusual blue dial but I'm less inclined to wear watches with a value over c£3k so think that tempers my want nowadays.

Up until recently I had a long term fancy for a nice Mk 1 De Luca but even that's waned. There are some lovely watches on here though, especially the vintage ones. I tend to move quickly past the shiny new Rolex pics

I see a few Skydwellers on here and would love one but by principal I'd never pay over RRP so I know I'll never probably own one.

I was going to say none, but that is lovely and has had me looking at them on Chrono24 more than once since I first saw it.

Mike Woods has an enviable selection and Kash always has something desirable. MartynJC too has had some nice ones and there is someone with 36mm DD platinum Rolex which I covet. But then those threads come up show us your chronos/panerai/Seiko etc and you guys will show something I haven't heard/thought of and I covet those.

I would say that there are a couple of real stunners that Eddie has, that being the Rolex Explorer ref 1016, and the IWC Mk11 that he used as a reference for the wonderful PRS-47 Navigator that I can say that I own.

I think this 26480 is my favourite AP chronograph. I’m keeping watch on the Sales Forum!

I think that sweets/dave has a 5100-movement Tutima without the running seconds that I've always admired. DeusIrae (??) used to have a 1019 Rolex Milgauss, a vintage one, that I coveted!

    Looked like this -

I missed out on my grail watch when it came on SC just after Christmas. D3ckard beat me to the blue ceramic Blancpain Bathyscaphe that was sold by Courboy.

I was gutted to say the least. Can’t afford it at list, but this one was an absolute bargain and I’d have had it in a heart beat.

Occasionally I’ll see a vintage Omega that would sit nicely in my own collection. What can be mildly frustrating is working on someone else's watch and realising I’d really like to own it! I’ve never offered to buy a watch I’m working on, that would be a conflict of interest , but I’ve ended up buying a couple at fair market value when they came up for sale later.

The difficulty with vintage or discontinued watches is lack of availability, sourcing a nice example can require a lengthy search and if you know someone who owns what you’d like to buy it does no harm to let them know you’re interested in buying.

The Milgauss 1019 is a rare and very smart model, surprisingly large when you first find one.

There were several versions of silver dial, with different styles / sizes of text (check out the large / small ROLEX), chapter ring and indices.

Black dial versions were also made, but I believe to be rarer. I have three silver, none black.

There was a time when Rolex couldn't sell them and the rep used to travel with a bundle of them. Many sold long after their case numbers would suggest manufacture....

I think it would be okay if you were to ask about a possible sale as long as its not a sentimental watch, or even say please let me know if you ever do decide to sell, I certainly wouldn't have took it as a conflict of interest when you serviced my vintage Omega if you had asked..

I wouldn’t say I lust after anyone’s watch if I’m honest. I do really like ASW1 670 equation of time though. I’d have taken his 690 if I could of afforded it at the time as well.

Always remember a Seiko chrono that was on here quite a few years ago.
    7T59 6A0A was the model.
Never seen another on here, would love it if it was still in the community.
