JLC Reverso - my other half loves it:)
Any suggestion bar the staple datejust? Cartier jumps out at me, nothing else really springs to mind. Any suggestions?

Some of the ladies Breitlings are absolutely lovely
Check with the lady first or you may waste your money! Don't ask me how I know this!
Cartier Tank
JLC Ultra Thin Moon 34mm
And second the above poster if this is really what she wants. You can get a helluva piece of jewellery for the price of nice watch, and this may be more appreciated by your other half.
Ladies JLC, Cartier or a Patek.
Chanel J12 in white.
Now if this question was reversed, and it was a woman asking other women about a 40th birthday choice for her man, all the male readers would be shouting at the screen, “don’t guess for me, just ask me directly”

Thanks all, she wants a watch as travel is off the cards.
Sadly in think I know the answer and it will probably be a date just.

^ true, but OP should definitely check out some ladies Breitlings first. They look fabulous and are a lot cheaper than DJ’s. I think the non-diamond ones look best.
Choppard Happy Diamonds are really cool and the ladies seem to like them.

Given the choice my wife chose the 31mm ladies omega aqua terra with diamond dial. She now quite fancies the 34mm with MOP dial. I’m glad I asked her now as I was set on a date just but she really didn’t want one.
Second that - mine loves her white J12 which was a surprise gift.

I'd offered my partner the same for her 40th a couple of years back.
As she was researching options she spotted the 37mm Yacht master and that's what we ended up with. Great size, and looked different from her sister's diamond dialed datejust.
She's been very happy with it, though I wince everytime I see the scuffs and scratches
Depends on budget.
Different answers at £1k, £7k, £20k, £50k.
Agreed.
Without wishing to generalise, I’ve found women to be unconcerned by anything other than whether they like the look of a thing, as long as it also meets basic practical requirements.
Value, perceived/actual quality etc seems much less of a concern.
A lady fellow watch enthusiast is a different kettle of fish.
I had this question for a gf's 40th a few years ago. A couple of visits to retailers and she choose a TT Cartier tank francaise, a la Michelle Obama at the time. IMHO a timeless classic for a lady.

Not a watch person, however was impressed with DJ 32 I picked up on behalf of my brother for the SIL.
£7k would cover a grey, baton dial with gold bezel and jubilee. I am an oyster bracelet man, however the smaller datejust looks better in the jubilee.
Previously she had an omega constellation. So the aqua terra may be a shout.

Sloppy cropped pic but this is what I went for. Jubilee is the right choice on smaller wrists as is a fluted bezel on a woman's watch. Only annoyance is it doesn't show the minutes on the dial so setting it is quite annoying but not something you have to do often.
Ended up ordering an Aqua terra 34mm. Lovely thing, forgot how nice omegas are.
Just to add some of the new breitling range are stunning.
i think the old 34mm air kings and OPs are some of the most beautiful watches rolex ever made, women always comment on my old AK (never on any sports models)

Ask HER.....!
MOP dials are a bit bling
Bought this for my wife.
Constellation 18K was her another option.
