What does the scammer get out of it?
How is the official app supposed to notify people?
Had a text this afternoon of NHStracing saying I’ve been in contact with someone who’s has Covid 19 and I’ve got to isolate. And someone will be ringing me.
Anyone else had a text like it .? Could it be a scam ?
Cheers

Do you have the app?
I had a notification via the app, then calls from an 0300 number which was them calling to tell me I had to stay home for 10 days, however they were not able to tell me if it had been a venue check in possible contact or a being in close proximity.
I also had several check up calls, texts and emails during the 10 days,
I’ve never had the app
It was a text asking me to click on a link and that someone will call me shortly
Not necessarily so- when my wife and I had it we had to give names and numbers of all people we’d been in contact with. Both my sons received texts first followed by calls. I wouldn’t discount it OP
Its possible someone lenlec has been in contact with has given them his details.
There was also a link- he’s just checked

If you have not downloaded the app, it's a scam.
When you look long into an abyss, the abyss looks long into you.........
If it was some one who knows me well enough to have my mobile number and name id of thought they would of contacted me to say something like : hey mate I’ve got Covid and I was in your shop the other day so had to give them your details. ?
When I tested positive they asked me for details of anyone I had been in contact with, my wife got that text
As far as I can tell, the OP is unsure why someone who knows his mobile number and has been in close contact with him, hasn't phoned/texted to tell him themselves.
I wouldn't trust it at all.
Not true.
Myself and family had Covid over the Christmas break, my sister was the first to get a positive test on boxing day and gave details of all the family members she'd seen on Christmas day, we all received a texts from NHStracing, regardless of having the App or not.
The genuine texts come from NHStracing as in FFF post.
Gov. Advice:
Text messages will come from ‘NHStracing’ which is a protected sender ID.
Also confidentiality is one of the principles of the system, you won’t be able to find out who the contact was.

My text the same as fff
Just phones him for advice and a chat
Think it’s legit. It asked me to create a password
And answer a few questions about if i have symptoms etc
It did ask for my date of birth
You and OLT could well be right, I just wanted to make Andy aware that you don’t need the app to get a text. I thought I’d just double check with my son and he certainly doesn’t have any covid/nhs app.
Having just spoken to Andy it appears he’s clicked the link which has asked him to fill out basic details and that’s it.
It looks and seems legit however I guess you could never be 100%
Thats an unexpected issue with us all on high alert these days with fake texts and messages, do we take them seriously or not? I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that I sincerely hope the guys who perpetrate these fake messages that their ear holes turn in to arse holes and they shyte on their own shoulders.
