Anyone ran a Merc 350 CLS?

Due to impending divorce I gave had to sell the SQ5. It actually sold with 15 mins of going on Autotrader which is quickest I think I’ve ever sold a car. Anyway I’ve seen a 2011 350 CLS which is reasonable money and fairly low mileage at 62k it’s also had the water pump changed as I’ve read this can be an issue.
Question is has anyone ran one of these and what did you think? I really like the look of them and the 3 litres diesel seems to be the pick of the bunch.

    Do you mean 350 CLS?
The CLS - which is a 4 door "coupe" style saloon?

The 3l diesel (350cdi) is certainly a very nice machine, plenty of poke and quite smooth. If you're after a little more mpg wise, then the 250cdi (twin turbo 2.1 diesel) is a decent compromise.

I've always liked the CLS and for me the shooting brake is the pick of the bunch.

They are great cars. I have had that same engine in a few cars and also have had that particular model of car itself.

You may get the odd issue of course, but generally a comfortable cruiser and fairly reliable. Economy isn't too bad given there is a reasonable level of power. I personally would recommend against the 4 cylinder. I have had those too and to be honest, the v6 just transforms the car.

Practicality wise, coming from a 4x4, that may take some getting used to. The rear seats are not amazing but you can fit four adults if you need to. The last model we had we sold and went for a 4x4 just for comfort and space.

350 diesels are supposed to be pretty good. I like the SB shape but it's not as practical as the E class estate. There are loads of 350 e class out there.
There are also a few cls 63 estates too...but they only have 525 bhp (or a bit more) so aren't terribly swift..

I had a CLS 220d shooting brake for couple of years, I loved it, but underpowered so would definitely get a 350 if you can

i have the diesel 3litre V6 in my E class and its a superb motor, oodles of power and reasonably enconomical too.in nearly 3 years of ownership, consumables apart, its cost me £100 for an aftercat lamba sensor.chuffed with it.i could be wrong here but is the CLS a four seater, depending on your needs you might be better off with an E class which is a 5 seater..

I never thought I would see the day that 525bhp is described as ‘only’ and ‘aren’t terribly swift’ . 😁

It was rather tongue in cheek as it isn't what the OP was asking about. They are the halo version and by any standards ridiculously fast. You would need the likes of an Aventador or pagani to really show it a clean pair of heels.

I had a 2008 CLS300, bought it with 20,000km on the clock in 2013 and owned it for five years (100,000km). During this time, I had zero repairs with the exception of a broken suspension spring (front right).

Bought a very recent 7-series BMW afterwards and have never been truly happy with it. Next car will be a Merc again, surely.

Ive had a 2013 CLS 350D and im now in a 2018 model.
Never had anything other than consumables and servicing to outlay.
I do fairly long trips eg currently Sheffield to Brighton and it is really comfortable.More so than the Mrs RRS.
I'm a fan of the look as much as the engine.

I have an E350 (same engine) and it’s been great. About 250bhp, tons of tongues and super smooth. No problems except a replacement glow plug. Have returned around 40mpg based on 45km.

Servicing, even via a Independent, can be pricy depending on whether it’s a A or B service, but that seems the case for most cars these days.
