    Rolex 5513 1520 movement

    Bit of advice needed gents, what amplitude would the above usually run at after a service and new mainspring?My watch is from 1968.

    I found this info after a brief search. Experts may wish to chime in

    The amplitude of a modern watch should be between 275 and 315 degrees.
    In a vintage watch, an amplitude between 250 and 300 degrees is fine.

    Thanks Martyn, that general advice is what I would expect but im curious to know if this movement is different.

    What amplitude are you seeing?

    One if the key factors affecting older watches is the mainspring, sometimes the available replacements are slightly stronger or weaker than originally specified and that will have a significant effect.

    If checking on a timegrapher be sure to set the lift angle correctly. I don’t know it for this one but it’ll be available online somewhere.

    Most machines default to 52 degrees which is a common figure, most the majority of movements are within 3 degrees so its a sensible default, but 1 degree error equates to approx 5 degrees amplitude so a movement such as the Omega 565 with a lift angle if 49 will appear to have approx 15 degrees better amplitude if the default 52 degrees is used.

    Amplitude improves when a watch is demagnetised, sometimes a watch us slightly affected and tge amplitude will improve by 20 degrees accompanied with a fall in rate.

    The 15xx calibres must not exceed 280 degrees dial up at full wind. They must exceed 200 degrees crown down after 24h unwind, as per Rolex service guidelines.

    thanks for the comments, lift angle for the 1520 is 52 deg and im seeing around 235 which seems to be in spec, looked too low but the last post shows that is not.
