It seems Boris has changed the law for driving while in England,as well as all driving lessons being stopped your now not allowed to sit beside a family member in your bubble if you were going for your shopping.
This doesn't apply in Scotland or Wales as of yet.

Not according to this

Think it needs a bit more clarification as underneath it says you cannot practice driving in England.
Not very clear

Been out this morning with my daughter, had no idea this would be an issue.
Drove round the locality for 30 minutes and back home.
That’s the end of that I guess, just one more kick in the teeth for the youngsters.

Good post on pistonheads...breadvan that gives advice is a respected lawyer.
I think I would be keeping a set of shopping bags in boot and just say it's an essential journey.

My son is learning at the moment, was due to have his test mid January but unfortunately he’s now back to square one. He’s been pestering me to take him out this last week (we live in rural Norfolk with very little traffic) but I’ve said no due to the icy conditions. If we had gone we’d have combined it with a food shop bit looks like that’s now against the law. Occurred to me I might call his insurance company (it’s his insurance and the car is in his name) and ask for a refund if the law currently means he can’t use the car as intended. Or would that be pointless?

I think you would be fine to take him out for the shopping after reading what was said on pistonheads as one of the lawyers on there said it's not law.

It seems pretty clear that you can't do it in England.
Shopping bags in the boot or not, you're ripe for a pull with a nice big red 'L' on the back of the car.
If accompanying the driver, unless you had a reason that you couldn't drive yourself like your foot in a boot, or arm in a sling you would have a job explaining.
Two FPN's for the price of one?
My youngest was 17 at the beginning of March so not been great for him with start stop start stop lessons.
Pitch
Yeah my lads learning just now, thankfully were in the borders so can still get out for now until wee Jimmy krankie copies Boris he drives to the supermarket and any essential journeys we need.
He had to do his theory test in Carlisle in December and said it was packed with people from Glasgow as Scotland has the 2mtr rule and has to close every other exam booth where England has the 1mtr so they can all stay open.
It's been tough on the young ones who are learning

No border closed here, she might like to but has no chance of that.

That depends what page you're reading.

There's plenty of conflicting advice on the gov.uk's website...

As Ralphy has pointed out a number of times that the page referenced is targeted at professional instructors it’s also worthwhile pointing out
Also the actual law rather than guidance can be found here: https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/1374/contentsYou can supervise someone from your household or support bubble during an essential journey during the national lockdown.
Other pages on GOV.UK will be updated with this information as soon as possible
The test for the law is ‘reasonable’ so while providing supervision for a family/bubble member on its own is not on the non exhaustive list of reasonable reasons to leave home it is in my opinion a reasonable reason to leave home given the guidance above. It’s also worth noting that obviously it is not specifically excluded as a reason to leave home.
Should you have concerns over this then by all means combining the instruction with another activity that you feel covers the reasonable test.
Carrying a printout of the guidance and the SI should you wish will allow you to ‘plead’ you case should you be approached by the police. On the off chance you meet a more recalcitrant officer and receive a fpn then accept the paperwork and write and reject it when you return home.

Irrelevant where it was from, I was merely commenting on what Chris said
about what was written hereDoesn't matter where it's from or whether other contradictory versions or pages might exist. I was solely commenting on what was "written" in that image and someone's interpretation of it.
