Massena LAB Uni-racer - Universal Geneve Uni-Compax Homage, thoughts?

Came across these on the Hodinkee shop Instagram.

I’m a big fan of UG compax - and I think these look quite classy. UG only produced around 100 of the original “Big Eyes” i think (and sell for ridiculous money). However, I’m still not sure about the $3.5k price tag on these homages. Whilst they look great and are quite good replicas of the originals, you can pick up other vintage Uni-compax for a fair bit less.

Basically it's an over-priced Dan Henry and whilst the Hodinkee exposure might help sell a few to the money-rich & time-poor hipster donkeys it doesn't curry favour with the genuine enthusiasts who inhabit forums. If you really want one, play the long game and see what they shift for when they end up on Ebay. Failing that just buckle down and keep an eye out for vintage UG on all of the various sales platforms (but perhaps avoiding Philips auctions).

Thanks for this... yes I just read the whole thread and got to this bit, crazy - I've only discovered the brand today and didn't know the backstory... As a (proud) UG owner myself, this certainly puts Massena beyond the pale for me too
