    2021 SOTC and retirement post

Retiring from collecting, not from general watch nerdery heaven forbid.

This is where ive ended up -

Blancpain Tribute to Fifty Fathoms Mil-Spec.
Wanted one ever since they came out so sold my 116610LV to make way for it last year.

Tritium 16610 spider dial. L serial transitional. Some say knackered, but I love it. Its probably my favourite of all to wear.

    IWC Big Pilot 5004.
Wanted one of these for AGES so did some shuffling and jettisoned a Buckley Datejust.
Its a new and final arrival but I'm really happy with it. I've heard cautionary tales that its too big but having cheerfully worn 47mm Panerai, its an easy wear as far as i'm concerned.

14060 4 liner, V serial. Not going anywhere ever.
Bought it NOS stickered in France 2014.

Moonwatch 3750, I bought this for my dad and he wears it most of the time but I borrow it when he's wearing his DJ if I want a change of scenery.

Full metal G Shocks x 3. Gold is my favourite.

Pair of Snoopys - NASA indiglo and the Q anniversary. They remind me of my Snoopy watches as a kid.

An Onsetta who's dial and handset I loved the minute I saw it on SC. It was cheap as chips IIRC.

Tissot PRS 516 GL Day-Date. Lump of 70s bling, I don't wear it but its there.

I also have a Lip Nautic Ski thats away for a crystal replacement and general fettle and a Johnny Cupcakes G but I don't have any photos to hand of them.

I think thats me done for accumulating certainly for this year and who knows beyond that. Im aware that this is a virtual impossibility but figure that committing in writing may help
Thanks for enabling me for the last decade!

Hehe, I don't think you're done for this year, no chance! I won't even mention after that.

Great collection though buddy, that Blancpain is the highlight.

Give over Verv, who are you trying to kid? Yourself!?

Lovely set of stuff there, I do enjoy the Big Pilot especially.

Good luck to your abstinence. If you do stop, it's a great set to end on

Looks a good set to end on - I wish you luck in sticking at these. But, I think the only way out is to sign out of the forum and the business? For me the Blancpain is my favourite.

Ive been a lot less motivated to buy since working in the trade and certainly over lockdown tbh.
I like what I have, and once free want to spend more time travelling as incarceration has really brought that bit home.
Much as id love to, I cant have it all so thats where ill be diverting savings to in future. If I can stick to plan at least.

A lovely collection there, some excellent pieces.

I didn't know you were in the trade.
    Cheers,

Lovely collection and well diversified. You could retire from watches with half of that collection imo. Standout for me is the 14060M. Really nice strap on the big pilot too.

I totally get the travelling desire. Hopefully it will come soon for you. I’ve always travelled quite a lot, but I think this lockdown has really made me realise that we’ve all taken it for granted, as it was such an easy thing to do. I’ve bought more watches than I’d planned to and no doubt will sell something and spend it on travelling when it’s possible.

Great diversified collection by the way :-)

Great collection - I too have the Snoopy Timex Q, great fun. Like many others I love the Blancpain!

The Big Pilot is just a fantastic horological object, maybe a bit much for my spindly wrists, but an awesome watch; I would love one! I should have bought a good 14060 when I could, but probably too late.

Great collection, whether you remain retired or not.

Nice state of the collection C but it's not happening I'm afraid, though I do applaud the sentiment.
The 14060 and Milspec tribute the stars for me.

Nice collection, and a couple of surprises. We've missed travelling this year as well, so hope you can get to the places you'd like to see. Stick around though eh?
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

That's a lovely diversified collection. I also think you'll struggle to not buy anything else, but good luck anyways!

Really like the 14060 4 liner

Liking the 16610 and have seriously thought of buying one several times in the last two years.

I think a lot of us can relate to the reduced desire to buy, especially during these times. For me, I think it's more that just that my collection has now reached the point where I have watches I really like and it's increasingly difficult for a new watch to have enough additional attraction to make me really want it. There's a few I'd like to try but they're not readily available to me so I'm not hankering after them.

A nice collection to retire for the moment covers all ground. However the two that made me smile are the snoopys to the point I have just ordered the mk1 to go with my reissue version.

Lovely collection, Celia. I too rather doubt that you’ll be able to abstain for too long, but maybe you’re much more strong willed than me. I set out to reduce the size of my collection last year and actually did sell 5 watches!

    Shame I bought 4, though

A nice varied selection. However, clearly missing a Panerai. Like the one below (which you looked after for a while). IIRC you had a 605 at one point, love those.

Enjoy the break C. Be strong :)

    Love the Snoopys.

Giving up collecting is a strange change that seems to happen when I don't actually think about it too much.

    Retirement been blown yet?

The Big Pilot is a worthy watch if you are not going to have a Panerai. Otherwise hopefully you can keep temptation in check!
