Speedmaster Tokyo 2020 - which would you pick ?UPDATED

I know Tokyo 2020 did not happen but the watches did !...of the 5 I narrowed it down to 2 and I have to say I like each equally.... the 'rising sun' silver dial is fabulous ..but the Blue is very 'Gemini' which I have always fancied...would be interested to see which way the TZ illuminati vote ?

The Blue definitely, but is it a poor man's Gemini IV limited edition homage, certainly looks that way.

The blue looks a bit standard Seamaster, the White is more special IMO

An I the only one that considers the Tokyo 2020 blue a slight step up from the Gemini? There are a few subtle differences such as the step dial, elongated nicer markers and improved dial text, red tip second hand that I think make it even better.

Either way between these two I would choose the red/silver as I find that absolutely stunning (never been the biggest fan of the Gemini).

My overall favourite though was the green/sedna gold which not many seemed to like.

i bought the Rising Sun. there were no Speedmaster edition with similar colour combo.
And looks like the current Platinum Speedmaster model.
Here’s mine and i ordered the same strap of the platinum model below.

I went with the Panda as my first followed by the Red Sun. Japanese colours and different to the usual, both brought at retail in Osaka and Tokyo. I had the choice of the red or the green but the green was disappointing in the metal. Just looked disjointed on the wrist.

The blue is still in my list but pushed down now due to The New Snoopy being blue and the need to pay over retail which means the gap isn’t that big any longer

wow superb...love the Panda B/W very Mitsukoshi / rising sun is so different and very evocative of the Platinum..

going through CH24 with big Japanese dealer - hopefully our new rules and regs don't slow it down and just 20% to add....

I'm not really a fan of Speedmaster special editions on the whole but the Panda would be my choice of the two and I actually think it's rather nice.

The other one does nothing for me, at all.

Of the two I prefer the Rising Sun because it is so different, although I know I would have difficulty reading the time on it.

I really like the blue dial of the two. I think there is someone on the christopher ward forum who has the rising sun version and he struggled with the hands so replaced them with black/darker ones.

This, silver hands on a pale dial rarely works.

Yeah but don’t forget handling charges and the 20% is on top of all handling and postage charges as well as the higher than the actually retail price of the watch you are paying.

    Have you tried www.vintagespeedmaster.co.uk
Darren a good bloke and may be able to help you

    Good luck and enjoy

Can’t say I have ever had any trouble and my eyesight isn’t brilliant. The dial can be light or dark grey depending on the light

    hmmm

    I thought it was a small handling fee say £ 30.00 ?
    then 20% VAT so a watch of £ 5000 would be £ 6030 ??
or is my maths off ?

Speedmaster Tokyo 2020 - which would you pick ?

The 20% goes on top of everything so

    Cost of watch
    Cost of postage
    Cost of handling
    Cost of any potential duty
    Then VAT comes on top!

You will not be way out, tens not hundreds of pounds.

Also interesting to see how much these have come down. The retail was around £4600 and there were being offered up at around £8000 a few months ago so £5000 is a decent price

    postage £ free
    handling £ ????
duty £ 0.20 pence - we signed a deal with Japan
VAT 20% on top of purchase price.

    I think / hope

Free postage with insurance and tracking?

That’s a good deal as they seem to be quoting around £120+ on my Chrono24app.

I could nearly be tempted to add a Blue myself as it is unlikely I will be in Japan for the foreseeable!

If only I knew when my Snoopy would be arriving!

I had the blue and sold it in a P/X. I really regret selling it and photo's don't do justice to the dial. All of the 2020 Tokyo's are a great choice, I'd have the Blue back without hesitation but would be equally happy with any of the five.

Both handsome watches, but I would go with the red, as I already have a couple of blue faces, and the grey dial on that one is quite attractive.

Hello TKH - I didn't know the Speedmaster Professional was no more. Was it announced today? I assume they will put a fresh movement in it?

Rising sun for me, looks far more interesting than the blue.

I’m surprised by the results so far, that said blue is the in colour at the moment.
    Cheers,

I’ve not seen all the colours but out of the red and the blue shown here, I would go for the blue.

Also, as the games in Tokyo did not go ahead in 2020, would that not help with its future value..

Ordered on the 6th and arrived today...So pretty efficient given a weekend in between.

    Japan - HK - Belgium - Paris - Stansted - Birmingham - Manchester - ME !

when I found out it was shipped by FedEx I could not get Tom Hanks and Wilson out of my head and imagined my Speedy washed up on a beach

    2 lovely examples!

Its good to hear of positive first hand experience of a Japanese dealer, I would always have been a bit dubious. I'm after a PO Chrono so will keep an eye on IPPUUKISHI inc.

Can I ask how much you ended up paying above the price shown?

IPPUUKISHI were good level service on the Rising Sun

OMICRON also superb on the Blue with instant comms ...just bear in mind they are 8 hours ahead of us..

prices are per latest on CH24 ----Plus the 20% duty and a few other admin charges from carriers

you can live track with either Fedex or DHL...
