The civil and military knighthoods under discussion are a tradition and a perk of the job, these people are not identified for a knighthood, it is an automatic privilege and not discretionary. Hence, Sir Kier Starmer, Sir Simon Stevens etc.

I understand that, but it devalues the system, in my view.

That said, I'd change a lot of things about Britain if I was in charge.

Most of my ideas are, of course, probably totally unworkable in reality!
