Just ordered the prototypes - prototypes received

And hope they look as good in the flesh as I think they will. 38mm

Those look beautiful Eddie, especially Version A! Do they have a name/reference? How thick is the case?

    They are really rather lovely.

Will I have to forge a relationship with the AD spending many thousands over a number of years just to get on the list?

We don't operate that system here ;-)

Not the prototypes I was hoping for (any news on the Caribbean?) but looking very smart all the same.

You don't think you'll have a problem with the name 'Worldmaster'? Atlantic has been using that word for some of its models for rather a long time, and still sells watches today with that name.

Atlantic registered the trademark "Worldmaster" but if you check the trademark register, you can see that they didn't renew it in January 2020 when it expired and it's now showing as "dead".

I like them, but 36mm would work better for me. Keep the thickness as small as practicable!

Lovely! Am I the only one who thinks it would look even better with a crosshair or a vertical line across the dial?
I'd even like a version with the snazzy date window à la Polerouter, but I'm probably in a minority there.

Whilst the registered mark may have lapsed, it doesn't mean the unregistered rights fall away (which can still be enforced). It would be sensible to check whether there is ongoing use.

Seconded, would just slightly temper the dressiness a touch, to it's benefit imo.

There is definitely ongoing use, current models on the Altlantic Watches website. Personally, I'd rather see an original name on a variation of the word polerouter, or polarouter as they were originally called.

Would quite like to see what the black one looks like with rose gold highlights.

Sorry, but the branding/logo is just not for me.

    My opinion

First time weighing in on watch aesthetics,
so take this with a grain of salt:

    1) England should be moved from Smiths logo to bottom and say "Made in England"
    2) "Automatic" should be replaced by "Worldmaster"
    3) Red watch band with cream dial ?

What is so special about this watch that makes it a "Worldmaster" ?

Other the otherhand, the watch looks quite nice overall and the back engraving is also very nice.

I liked the 'Great Britain' on the bottom of the Precistas, but 'Smiths England' is the historic and current branding. Black, Gold and steel is a great looking colour combination rarely seen nowadays. I'm normally a no date fan but I'd also like to see the shaped Polerouter style date window as an extra point of interest on the dial ... or the model name in the bottom half of the dial. As to name - if theres an issue with Worldmaster then why not Worldrouter. Nice watch as it is of course and 38mm a good mid size for most - look forward to seeing the protype pics ....and still eagerly waiting for the Caribbeans!

For what it's worth, I'm out of this one because of:

    - Gold accents
    - No lume
    - No crosshair dial

But good luck to everyone interested :)

Agreed with the above, plus should be 36mm. I know the gold accents are true to many of the original but not for me. I like the general idea but would prefer if closer to the image below. Trapezoid date window I like, but could live without.

I prefer this version. Good choice of name. I read Fienne's To the Ends of the Earth: the Transglobe Expedition a few years ago and like the exploration and polar connection. I still think it needs lume pips and a simpler black and silver version.

A huge, 'YES!', to the salmon dial. I mentioned the introduction of one on Facebook and it got a lot of likes.

The concept renderings look handsome, but imho without lume and the crosshair or vertical line on the dial they appear to dressy. The original GG design struck an excellent balance between elegance and ruggedness - that's where its appeal lies for me. The Smiths Trans-Global could continue the idea and be a modern update with a slightly larger 38mm case, 100m wr and anti-mag capability. Trapezoid date window would be nice as well. ;-)
Eddie, have you considered a baton hand-set for this?

Nice concept, I'll follow this one with interest. With this and the other interesting projects in the pipeline it looks like 2021 may turn out to be an expensive year watch wise

    Donating my 2p

Hyphenating the “trans-global” doesn’t work for me. I’m sure grammar police will advise one way or other but feels/looks odd

Does the movement type need to to be engraved into the case back? Less is more?

Salmon dial, ohhhh be keen to see more (like the others also)

36mm is little bigger than a boys' size .. plenty of dinky little vintage watches for the skinny wrist brigade, 38mm is a more modern size for today's bigger people/modern tastes.

-1 I might be have been in at 36mm, but not at 38mm. Oversized watches always end up looking wrong (or in the worst cases, just silly) - especially those based on an existing, smaller design that works well. Resist the fad!

Also agree with the crosshairs on the dial - I think it will need something if they are going to be 38mm - there will be a lot of empty dial.

Very true, I think these were less common? Personally, I still find that the lumend versions work better.

    I suppose a 38 mm case would look well-proportioned with 20 mm lug-width.

Could a date-window be integrated elegantly with the 38 mm case or would it have to be in a weird spot?

Definitely growing on me. For me it would be version A. Any chance of just having lume filled hands? I think it would achieve the balance between tool and dress watch.

I like version A, but I have a lot of vintage watches that already fill this slot.

I'm sure many will want a new watch with that look, though, so I think it'll do well.

Lumed hands would be all wrong for this style of watch, I think.

    Possible amendments for consideration -

    1) Cross Hairs on the dial look great and really help to improve any negative space.
    2) Definitely keep the hand-set shown on the render, adds elegance to the dial.
    3) Movement change to a bi-directional winding to eliminate any rotor whir - replace the Miyota 9039 with the Seiko NH38A (cheaper to purchase).
    4) Make the Trans-Global one word.
    5) Remove the movement name and replace with simply Automatic on the case back.

All just my personal opinions of course....
