Thread: Favourite Acquisition of 2020?

The only purchase of 2020. I’ve worn it more or less everyday since getting it.

yes, both spectacular with a small preference towards the BP as it's not quite so obvious as the Rolex. Envious either way, but I think I have had and am having a similar year to you so hatches have been battened.

Thanks Rich, and here’s hoping for an easier 2021! Love your BP, incidentally.

I have two "favourite acquisitions" from what was a largely awful year.

    One is a watch:

Quartz, but it's a Grand Seiko quartz, and I wear it more than any of my other watches - it's just perfect for everyday use.

The other is my Golf R. Which is also perfect for everyday use.

    Have a better 2021, everybody!

Been a quiet year, partly because watch chat has been grating on me for various reasons.

So a few incomings, favourite is a grail, with the least useful complication at this moment in time, however the pizza timer is handy, as is being able to know if it’s meant to be light outside.

I owned a Seamaster 300 Master a few years back and regretted selling it, bought another one this year and it’s perfect in my eyes (who knows why I sold the last one) everything is just right about it.

Nice - the pic isn't showing in your post for some reason (on the web browser site anyway, perhaps in app), so I've added the link above.

    Two this year for me...

I really enjoy them both but the O&J has captured my imagination in a way that no watch has done for many years. It is extraordinary in terms of design, function, materials and finish - and is my clear favourite for 2020.

Hang on, give me a minute....

The warranty card says 9F62-OABO, and the Grand Seiko site says SBGX265, as it's a dark blue dial:

    https://www.grand-seiko.com/jp-ja/collections/sbgx265

It is, as I said, ideal for everyday use. Or it is now, having sorted out the correct bracelet screws from the very helpful Boutique, and had the bracelet sized.

Ah thanks for clarifying. The dial looked chocolaty black in the pic. I have the previous series SBGX061 and in some lights it can look everything from blown to light grey. They are great watches. Merry Christmas!

It’s one of those that flies under the radar in the Omega line up, my pictures are crap but it really is a lovely watch- Bracelet is far better looking than the normal Seamaster variant, PCl’s aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, I wasn’t sure when i bought my first one but I think they really suit the watch.

I don’t know whether they are being discontinued, I’m not noticing as many around in the shops.

Lots came in and not much stuck this year.... but this grew on me.
It's just come back from Rolex as the pip was cracked. They fitted new glass too.
    Won't be going anywhere

Well it's two watches for me, one arrived at the beginning of the year and the other in December.

The first is the worlds first saturation quartz diving watch, the Seiko 7549-7009 golden tuna.Bought from the original owner and met up to do the deal which was a nice change. Was in amazing condition for a 40 year old watch and had been dived in around the world and then left in a drawer for twenty odd years.

The second but equal favourite of the year was this Apollo 11 30th anniversary. I already have a birth year '69 Speedmaster but this one appealed as it's a bit of a "stealth" limited edition and for the most part looks like and other Speedmaster. This particular version though had an extra special appeal to me as the moon landing date and also my date of birth is engraved on the back.

    Cheers
    Neil

I’m fairly sure 2020 has been the first year for a long time where I haven’t bought a single watch. I have managed to reduce the collection even further though, so somethings are looking a little more sensible.

    2021, who knows...
It's just a matter of time...

3 incomings this year. First was the result of a last minute trip to Tokyo, so I felt it warranted a first Grand Seiko purchase, and this is the ‘favourite watch’ of 2020. So classy, beautiful to look at, dresses up or down, and will remind me of a crazy year for a long time to come.

The second closely followed the GS, and that is a 16710 - a real classic and probably most worn, but the GS still wins. Finally, a Timex Q Snoopy for fun. - I got the Pepsi version, and it’s a great little beater.

Got 3 watches this year: Tudor bb58 blue, Datejust 36 from 1991 (for the mrs)and a King Seiko 5526-7000. I have to say out of the 3 the King Seiko is surprisingly my favourite.

Has to be this Heuer 510.503. Hunted one down for so long, managed to find this one in great condition and picked it up for a super cheap price. Last minutes bids on eBay can be deadly!

Though it could still be tied by one that should arrive before the end of the year (and needs a little bit of cleaning and a correct bracelet and crown)

I’ve made some real gooden in 2020, including a Sinn 556i that has exceeded all expectations. But my two favourites would have to be my TAG Heuer AquaRacer 41mm with gun grey dial, and a very recent ‘grail’ (hate that phrase!) purchase of a Rolex OP39. Still in the honeymoon phase but it’s such a great watch.

My 1815 this year is also def my favourite incoming in what was a relatively quiet watch year.

Almost the only incoming this year but very happy with it:

A proper Panerai with the very accurate and reworked eight days movement.

Thanks, standard P5000 I’m guessing, however it’s improved and not suffering from the issues like early models did.
Apparently PW is ten days rather than eight and I didn’t expect such a butter smooth winding experience TBH.
