    Favourite Acquisition of 2020?

I’ve had quite a lot in this year by my standards, and they are all interesting, and I think keepers. In a strong field (by my standards) I would have to narrow them down to this pair:
    The BR03-92 Matte Black

I wanted one of these for years, and it doesn’t disappoint in the flesh. Not something I would recommend as a first luxury watch purchase, or even second / third (!), but a point comes when it’s just a great addition, and an icon, in its own way

I’ve had 6 Seiko, or Seiko powered divers in this year, two SKX 007/9J, an SBBN007 Tuna, a 7548, Unimatic U1-FM and this 6306. I love this, and so glad I went for it after wavering

    Dave

I can’t decide between these two, I bought the white dial first and I was so impressed with it, I then had to buy the black dial when it came up on SC.
The quality of these current Seamasters is in a different league to many in the same price point, and they are so comfortable on the wrist. My favourite purchases of 2020 and two of my absolute favourite watches.

A lean, lean year, no work, five new teeth (two implants, three crowns), me a 40 year old LL Bean Hamilton Khaki automatic and a Vostok Scuba Dude. The dentist? A Daytona.

Have acquired quite a few watches but the favorite one might still be on the way.
Will update when last for the 2020 arrives.

Attachment 18595This Hirsch rubber strap for my Speedy to replace the leather strap it came with.

Hadn’t worn it for ages due to work changing policy to casual dress in 2017, changed to rubber and been on my wrist most days since working from home, best £35 I’ve spent.

I bought three IWCs in 2020 and I like this one best:

Notable purchases this year are a G Shock GBD H-1000, a 36mm Seiko 5 that I bought on impulse in Chelmsford (or was that the end of 2019?) that I enjoyed regulating myself. A Smiths Navigator and a quartz Newmark Field Watch. Oh yes and a camo metal G Shock with a reverse display and green strap. What else .. ah yes a lovely handwound '70s Seiko that I got on SC. A Steeldive IWC homage. I think the Navigator is my potential favourite, but I'll have to wait until it's back from the repairers to bond with it. The Newmark is a wonderful watch for the money, extremely accurate as well (presently gaining roughly a second every two months).

If I may, I'd like to split this into two. First a watch and second an accessory.
To begin, my first step into the wonderful world of Vostok watches, a hand wind Komandirskie 2414/811289 - excellent value at €30!

Second, is a toss up between two excellent bracelets for my Speedy. First was the Uncle Seiko version of a 1171 bracelet. As I've mentioned before on the forum, this is easily better built than Omega's 1171/1 self-copying reissue of the 1171. Second was Forstner's Komfit "JB" Mesh which gives any modern Speedy Pro a real 60s vibe. I swap between the two regularly and while perhaps wearing the Uncle Seiko more frequently, my vote goes to the Komfit on aesthetic grounds.

I'd also like to wish all TZUK'ers a happy December the 25th and a prosperous 2021 - let's face it, it can only get better.... can't it?

For me it can only be my recent accusation. Been wanting one for ages and finally got it.

Such a versatile watch, can wear it with casual and work attire. Absolutely fantastic piece.

2020 has been insane in so many ways..... I haven't counted accurately, but I've bought and sold at least 40 watches this year and should probably be in a rubber room in the Laughing Academy... I've loved them all, and kept the majority, but of all of those, it's a toss-up between two from one maker that get worn the most, and enjoyed the most:

#1. Damasko DC80 custom - no date, red minute and second hand, and DC66 12 hour bezel with red pip - the chronograph reduced to its simplest, purest and most legible form:

    ---

#2. Purchased used from here, Damasko DC57 - another wonderfully lucid and functional watch, SO easy to wear, tough yet smart, and a total strap-whore - looks good on anything in almost any colour; it is by a margin my most-worn watch:

I've taken a vow of abstinence for 2021 - which will no doubt be broken before the January's date is into double figures...

These three. The Daytona I picked up because I felt it’s just one I had to try at some point, and now it’s core to my collection, can’t fault it and not disappointed despite the hype. The Citizen makes a great beater/holiday watch, no brainer value proposition. The GP alarm is a new old stock vintage, interesting complication, symmetry and monochromatic, will be my office watch.

Think I added 5 to my collection this year after bringing the numbers down earlier. Nothing too expensive but chuffed with all of them, the highlight and clear favourite though is the Eberhard Scafomaster. Absolutely love it.

This. It's fast becoming everyday wear and making the rest of the collection redundant. The one watch answer maybe?

Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

Quite an easy choice. I bought a few & sold a few, but this one wins out.

I also started a thread on the difficulty of getting a good photo because of reflections, so please forgive the photo.

Some absolute stunners in this thread, but think the Smiths Everest is really standing out.

I think I only bought one this year (though I am wondering if I also bought a simple Seiko), anyway this one for me, one which I bought back from the chap I sold it to a few years ago, G-P F1-2000:

For sure this. I'd only ever had one 'keeper' which is a Dornbluth 99.1 I've had for 6 years now. Well the Okean is joining that club. Every bit as good a watch as my Speedy Pro

A very fine choice indeed as I added the Navigator to mine, both great examples of what fine watches Eddie produces. Enjoy and wishing all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I've bought quite a lot of watches in 2020, some vintage, some new, some cheap (really cheap!) and some less so (but nothing really expensive), but the favourite, for me, is a toss up between two new, and affordable watches.

Most pleasant surprise was the Komandirski 030935 24 Hour Watch

The dial is lovely, it keeps good time, the bracelet is even bearable and it cost me £81!

but I think my favourite was the Helm Vanuatu.

It's just so well made for a sub-£300 watch - Yes, it's just a microbrand NH35 powered diver, but the finish is excellent, the watch is individually ISO WR tested and I presume the movement is regulated, unless I just got lucky with a particularly accurate one.

I've said it before, but don't think all NH35 divers are the same, this is far more like a Sinn than a Steeldive (and not just the hands)!

I could live with it as my only watch.

Like others I would imagine I have had to cash some assets in due to the current situation and bought a fenix 6 pro.

For a long time my interest in watches wavered massively.

I then picked up these 3 for a little over £500 and think they are all fantastic in their own way.

I've sold 5 and bought 4 this year - all 4 at the relatively budget end of the spectrum. In order of acquisition they were:

    Sharkey Tuna
    Borealis Scout Sniper
    OceanX Sharkmaster 1000
    Casio G-Shock GMW-B5000D-1ER

All were sub-£400 purchases and I like them all a great deal. Most of you will recognise that 3 out of the 4 are homages.

For me there is a clear winner - my favourite acquisition of 2020 is the OceanX Sharkmaster. I am incredibly impressed with it in terms of build quality and the timekeeping is trul;y remarkable - it's losing 1.2 seconds per day irrespective of position. It is a faithful homage to the James Cameron, and is also extremely comfortable to wear (I would happily have it as a daily wearerif it wasn't competing with 16 other watches!).

Here it is with my 116660 DSSD...

    Simon

  41. #91
Simon I couldn’t agree more with you. I have also added to 2 Ocean X to my collection this year and the quality of these are ridiculously good.

    The time keeping is remarkable.

I would like to say my Omega 2254.50 or my CWC Diver but the one that just feels so right to me is the Tissot:

Some fantastic watches in this thread, congratulations to all those who found something to enjoy in this exceptional year.

Mine is the Damasko DC56. So much to love about this watch, from the tech to the build to the legibility.
