Well, I've moved 3 on in the last week, one of them thanks to the man above.

I feel there's space to add one again though

Well sorry to say I caved in today and bought the Scurfa on SC.

A good run by my standards and so I'm now +1 for 2021.

I’ve failed, I’ve bought 3 and sold 2. I’m nearly break even if that counts?

Havent bought anything since thinning down to one watch at the beginning of the year (T20)

Its becoming something a struggle though.

I keep thinking about getting hold of another Fat Boy.

The TZUK Watch Purchase Abstinence Club, 2021.

    Fallen off I’m afraid

Edit:: forgot I responded 6 posts back!

6 in, 3 out, and one on order, although that will be late 2022 by the time it’s ready. One expression of interest still active

On the upside, I think I’m close being happy with the collection for the long term, so I might have a better chance with abstinence club 2022.

It's my DC56 and DA37 that keep me from selling most of my watches and getting a Dornbluth as an "exit" watch. Especially given how long I've had them and the current cost vs what I paid for them. If I had remorse I'd likely not be able to replace them.

Thing-is, lovely as the various Dornbluths are, (and they really are), they don't fill quite the same 'tool watch' niche as the Damaskos do, so even a watch of that magnitude probably wouldn't keep the nagging voice of Regret entirely quiet...

I am incredibly lucky to have had - for the only time in my life - a little capital to indulge in some Precious Things, so still have a DC57 to console me. I'm just annoyed with myself 'cos the DC56 was a nice example that I'd slightly refurbed (crystal), and had got at a bargain price, and I rather fear it went straight on to ebay when I sold it... I'm no Raffe tho', so may be wrong about that last bit.

My Mum gave me a few quid as a present recently, so I finally bought a Spinnaker Hull Chronograph, a watch I'd eyed for a long time.

Personally, I think it's a really nice watch for the £138 I paid (with a pre-Black Friday discount) and it'll be here longer than the Chinese Seiko clones I went a bit mad on last year, I'm sure.

I've also just received an email to say I'm getting an offer to buy a Helm Khuraburi in the next 7 days, just as an unexpected tax rebate arrived, destroying any resolve I had not to buy one this time around.

I just have to pick a colour now - At around £300, though, it's not really Patek/Rolex expenditure and I do have a liking for their divers, so why not? I'd pretty much decided to buy anyway, before the rebate arrived!

Otherwise, I'm still trying to resist buying and I keep looking to see what I might sell, maybe a SOTC in the new year will spur me into parting with some watches I've had for a while, but rarely wear? Maybe...

So, having shed a few watches last year, the boxes are filling up again...

So with 7 days left or so I consider the year done.

I ended up -2 on the end of 2020. Pleased with that. At 1 stage last year I was +2, but a selling phase helped me get home.

These 2 were the big incomings, one a grail (233), the other a spontaneous purchase. Both going nowhere

As with the above poster I dont envisage any more changes this year.

    I'll be ending 2021 at -1

    Sold 2
Seiko Monster gen 2 and gen3
    Gifted away 2
    gen4 Monster and snk mod

    Bought 3
    Sinn 556 Damasko dc57 Scurfa D1

Fairly happy with what I current own but I'd like to shed a few more Seikos.

I want to join the watch abstinence 2022 thread. I’ve had 4 arrive and 4 leave in 2021. It’s all the straps I seem to accumulate as well. My strap box is full to bursting.

My watch purchase abstinence went like a dream, I didn't buy a single watch.

Apart from two Mings, two Kuronos, a Grand Seiko and a Smiths Everest Silver Jubilee. Yeah, apart from those, I didn't buy a single thing, it went well.

I don't have thread-ownership anxiety, if someone else wants to start a 2022 thread I won't lose any sleep over it. If no-one does then I might.

    2021 in review:

    In:
    Ming 17.09
Kurono Toki (to be received hopefully January 2022)
Kurono Seiji (to be received hopefully January 2022)
Ming 37.05 (to be received hopefully July 2022)
    Grand Seiko SBGN023
    Smiths Everest Silver Jubilee

    Out:
    Rolex Explorer
    Panerai Radiomir
    Tudor Black Bay
    Seiko Turtle
    Seiko SKX007
    Seiko SKX011
    Bell & Ross MA1
Smiths Everest Silver Jubilee (gifted to her, for anyone who might be mad at me for flipping)

This is from memory, I haven't kept a tally and there are maybe a couple of cheapies on either side that I've forgotten.
6 in and 8 out, I can't call that a success cos it's supposed to be abstinence and not a net drop in numbers. 2022 probably won't be a true success either because I'll have duty to pay on the two Kuronos and the Ming and also half the price of the Ming before delivery... so that's f**ked already. Ah well, none of us are here because we don't buy watches.

    My year in review.

    In

    G Shock GA-2100-1A1ER
    Damasko DS30
Seiko SKX 007 built from parts
    Tag Heuer Autavia CBE2110.FC8226
    Seiko SKX 007
Vintage sub mod built from parts

    Out

    Seiko Monster SRP315
    Custom built sub style mod
    Custom built 39mm mod

So I'm currently at a +3, although I'm trying to shift the custom SKX007, and will probably restore and sell the other SKX007 in the new year.

I'm at a really happy place with my collection right now, yes its spilled into 2 boxes, but having a smaller full box for my main watches mentally stops me filling up the second one.

The Tag was a real surprise this year, the watch fund was put on hold as I was planning to pop the question. Custom made rings don't come cheap but luckily she said yes! But I was able to get it at a price I couldn't refuse, and its a watch I've always liked.

Next year i'll continue building and selling modded watches and will probably restore a few Seikos. As for higher end watches, i'm at a good place right now, I have a strong want for a Grand Seiko, but there's now a wedding to save for.

Just totted up and for me it was 5 out, 3 in. I'd regard that as a success, given that I want to get the numbers down a it.

  37. #287
So what % stuck to it?
I did, though I “crumbled” twice: backing two kickstarters only to pull out when I thought of my abstinence vow.
Happy new year, crumblers or otherwise!

M numbers are down by two. 2022 goal is to reduce by another 2-3

  39. #289
Since Jan 21 (not including watches that were bought but returned) and based only on watches I took pictures of (meaning I may have forgotten some)

    All the below have gone:
    CWC quartz diver
    Seiko Darth tuna
    Vintage tuna
    Snbn033
    tudor black bay steel
    2 x dekla turblenz
    synchron military
    Dreadnought voyager
    Sinn u50
    Seiko MM200
    Doxa sub 300t
    Farer exmoor
    Sinn ezm3
    baby dreadnought
    Pelagos LHD
    Seiko new 300 tuna
    Sinn ux

bit daft really and I don’t fancy calculating the losses on all those. Having said that a lot were sold to pay for the next one or two

Several were purchased and returned due to dust, chapter rings, bezel alignment and comfort so won’t count those (not all seiko)

Those that were bought and remain

    serica 4512
    Apple Watch se

One watch ordered today for delivery in the first days of 2022 and one that arrived yesterday that might be returned.

Miss the UX, Farer and the LHD

Hopefully next year will be quieter.

Sigh I was doing so well until the last 6 weeks. Two big purchases, one end game level has ruined my 2021!

2022 has to mean some selling to fund my Ming chronograph which doesnt arrive until August. Definitely no buying!!!

    Erm 23 in.....

    Although 5 were for parts.....

And two were looking very unwanted on SC and so I took pity on them (it's the same as taking on a pet from a rescue centre isn't it?).....

I'll pin the blame for the rest on the other bidders who failed to outbid me in the auctions.

Did really well up until Christmas eve then collapsed and bought 4 over the space of 5 days. Hopefully a bit more will power in 2022!

Final roundup for 2021, more Out than In, so not too unhappy with that. Starting to consider moving-on a few more in 2022.
On the other side of the balance sheet, I'm really taken with the rugged-simplicity of Casio's MRW-200 and MRW-210 ranges - so legible, rotating bezels, day-date, cheap-as-chips: might just be The perfect beater, so can see one or two more coming-along at some point...

    IN TRANSIT:
    1. Casio MRW210H-7AV (ordered on the 31st, so...)

    IN:
    1. Tissot Seastar
    2. Damasko DC56 (and out again)
    3. Damasko DSub3
    4. Casio MRW200H-1BVEF (£19.99's worth, so not losing sleep over this one)
    5. Damasko DC76 custom (almost cancelled...)

    UP FOR SALE:
    1. Armand Nicolet J-09-3 blue dial
    2. Sinn 140 A SE

    OUT:
    1. Damasko DC56 (regretted in hindsight)
    2. Bulova Devil Diver
    3. Citizen Brycen
    4. Citizen Promaster Tough chrono
    5. Ollech & Wajs P-104
    6. Oris Aquis Small Seconds
    7. Q&Q
    8. Yema Superman Heritage
    9. Glycine Combat Sub
    10. Certina DS Active
    11. Casio 'Casioak'
    12. Hamilton Air Race
    13. MWC pilot chronograph

And two were looking very unwanted on SC and so I took pity on them (it's the same as taking on a pet from a rescue centre isn't it?).....

I'll pin the blame for the rest on the other bidders who failed to outbid me in the auctions.

I made it! No incomings and one (my Bulova Lunar Pilot) passed on to my youngest son for his 30th birthday - so I started the year with 17 and ended it with 16.

In the spirit of complete transparency I have to confess to having ordered a new watch (Gruppo Gamma Divemaster DG-08) a couple of weeks ago, but it hasn’t arrived yet so will count as a 2022 arrival!
