Thread: Watches with Large or Panorama Date

Watches with Large or Panorama Date

Don't think that there has been a specific thread on watches with either Large or Panorama Date windows.
    But stand to be corrected.

Recently been looking to get a Precious Metal watch dress watch, I miss having one in my small collection!

With my eyesight aging along with the rest of my body, sometimes it can be difficult to see the date at a glance.

I would like to look at other options which does not include the famous Cyclops lens.

    So, what Manufacturer's make them?

Here are the ones that I can think of:

    Glashutte Original
    Lange and Sohne
    Jaeger LeCoultre
    Breitling
    Chopard
    Girard Perregaux
    Moser

Please add to the list, include your thoughts and any photos.

A good idea for a thread. Far from a dress watch, but I can add Seiko to the big date club:

Ulysse Nardin perpetual GMT is one of my favourites with a big date. Older ones in white gold can be had in the low teens.

My main issue with big dates - especially those with 2 windows- is what happens during the first 9 days of the month.
I do not like the "empty" window. A nought is fine, though.

It is genuinely an issue. You will not often see a photo taken during those first 9 days.

    Great start to the thread

I knew that there had to be many others.

    My old GO seventies.

GO’s have a lovely two wheel mechanism that has both number wheels on the same plane so no visual difference in height on the window- which oddly Lange’s have, although in every other area Lange’s are generally higher level watches.

Think of it as a Grand Seiko that is built and finished as well, does more, and cost less

A watch I've always fancied, but never bought (in fact, I bought and still own the short length strap from the boutique), the Breguet 5817:

A couple from my collection. Top one is one of the best examples of the large date IMO and the latter comes in rose gold flavour with a rubber or leather strap which makes it more dressy

@OP Plus you had the Ti previously, so you know how it wears

I am indeed. I think it’’s so understated and a cracking watch. It’s took eight weeks to get the larger strap from Switzerland but now fits well.

Ulysse Nardin +/- Dual Time - available in many dial and case finishes over the years.
    Here's my 'El Toro' Dial.

Now I love a Panorama date, & the GO Panorama moonphase is a long term grail (hoping 40th treat).

From what I’ve read GO do this better than Lange (maybe the only thing apart from steel & price) as it’s 2 separate discs.

I also love the GO dive watch and the smaller blue version is great (if only it had the Pano date like is bigger sibling).

Also was close to purchasing a now discontinued Tag Aquaracer Chrono with big date (not quite Pano Date). Similar to the Breitling posted - I’ll find pics later.

VC Overseas (gen 1)... well executed although it does have a blank disc for single-digit dates (I guess there'll be those that like that and those that like the zero - neither is inferior IMO).

Some lovely watches here, but not much for anyone on a budget.

I must admit, partly for the big date, I've often looked at the Spinnaker Hull Chrono

I see the Fleuss (a Blancpain FF inspired watch, which is a little more conventional looking) also has the big date.

Remarkably they don't have a sale on right now, but wait a day or so and the probably will!

The VC Royal Eagle in Pm looks lovely as well.

How about the Nomos Orion Neomatik 41 date (model reference number 360)?

As well are the large date, I think it has a particularly readable and clear display. You should be able to get it for under £3000 from an AD if you haggle a bit.

Spectacular, and although not technically a dress watch, it could easily be worn as one. Beautiful!

I used to have this; not exactly subtle and definitely not dressy!
But it does have a big date.

Not sure what happened to the company.

You have all the usual suspects listed. I have a UN sonata with a nice big date but it is not a dress watch. I used to have a GO Pano. That had a nice big date too and a dress watch.

Just tried to buy a R/G Glashutte Original Senator. But it had already gone.
I see that IWC do one in their Da Vincci range.

Quite like that as a beater.
Just checked a d if you add the discount code MERRY you get 25% off all watches. Quite a bargain really.

    PS I bought one
