Tricky to get past the wife.

I know that there have been several threads about methods of "concealing" various purchases from better halves, but imagine the scene - you've just come back from the pub and think "I'll just see what's on eBay". Couple of quick bids later and you find that you've bought this!!
That's going to take some explanation!!! "No dear, of course it's not new. I'm sure you've seen it before"

    Cheers,

    Nigel

Indeed :) I know the cockpit was stripped and that the engines were gone, but I still thought it might have made for. He had lots of publicity for it.

Considering that originally it would have cost a few £million, the winning bidder probably has a bargain.

    Fantastic.

I would have the cockpit mods they offer. Then again, I couldn't get in it anyway :(

Chap I know got very drunk, then logged on to ebay, and bought a catering trailer. Forgot about it completely until he recieved PM's from the seller and Ebay. He tried to back out, but the seller threatened to sue, so he paid up. It was a brand new, top of the range fully fitted models. He has it parked on a layby on the A7, and makes an absolute fortune!!

    How cool would that be!

Breathalising prior to logging into ebay should be mandatory :D

Never had to sneak anything past the better half - but that would be an exception, although I've no clue what I would have done with it if I had won!

Just get it delivered in the garden when she is at work - deny all knowledge and claim it has been abandoned......

He sold it today as it was in the local paper. It would make a great catering truck at the side of the A1.

The MoD will be tracking him down before long and requesting spare parts.

Not as much of a joke as you might think. During the days when the Avro Shackleton was our main early warning aircraft it had to be kept in service for years after it should have retired; they were still trying to get the Nimrod AWACs to work so the Shack had to soldier on. It was a regular thing for mechanics from Lossiemouth to go down to the RAF museum at Hendon for spares, and on more than one occasion to raid the display Lancaster for odd bits of kit; (the Shackleton was a development of the Lanc).

And for some reason we're still shocked that guys are stuck in the shit in Afghanistan because we have helicopters that can't fly at night!!

Didn't Jeremy Clarkson stick a Lightning or some such in his front garden? Dug up the lawn rather more than his wife liked.

Well, I certainly wouldn't want it. It seems everyone around where I lives has one of these parked in the drive, or stuck on a stick.

Wouldn’t phase or bother my wife one bit. The roof on the guesthouse is flat (intentionally); I have been trying to find a suitable OH-6 to put on it.

Sad thing is at least they look good, these days the avionics are all driven by computer boards surprisingly similar to a laptop (even more so if a G4 mac). The important bit, the software could be carried around on a CD/DVD.

    Two Totally Different helicopters…

Magnum’s was a Hughes 500D, which was a civilian version. His was larger, had five Blades, “T” Tail, and a more powerful engine.

I want another 369D, four blades, and a straight vertical tail, less powerful engine, and the engine only weighs 158lbs (can be changed by one person). Light, and maneuverable, and fun to fly.

This was our old one, but it has since been wrecked… I want another one like this one.
