PSA - claiming tax relief if you worked from home due to COVID

    Thought this might be useful?

No need to do a full return…. Took me two minutes online

Just need your 12 digit tax reference and away you go

That's really useful. I'll do it on Monday.

I did this a couple of weeks ago and have already had my tax code adjusted.

If you're claiming for this and have to do a full return, which section do you put this expense in?

Section 20 on the full return and section 2.5 on the short form (according to MSE).

I claimed this a few months ago - surprisingly easy process & had an updated tax code within 2 weeks.

For those who fill out a self assessment, for the tax year 19/20, you can only claim for the weeks you worked from home and that is at £4/week.

For 20/21 (current tax year) you can claim £6/week for the whole year regardless of how many weeks you worked from home.

    Hope that helps.

P.s. you claim the amount in the "other expenses and capital allowances" section on the SA.

Thanks for the information, looks like I won't be able to submit this until January 2022 then.

Will the money claimed for WFH be offset against the tax owed, thus reducing the self assessment tax payment?

If you fill out a SA then it will all be calculated and the total tax due will be shown.
