    My eyes!!! Caution, wife-related content.

She just handed me this, saying she knew how I liked to clean them.
I occasionally confíscate hers and give it a once over - obviously been neglecting that of late.
No idea how it gets so black! I cleaned it a month or 2 ago.
I have watches that have not been cleaned for years and they don’t look like this!

To be fair, she has worn this every day since I bought it about 3 years ago.
She does everything in it. DIY, painting, gardening.
She does not care one jot about its condition or accuracy.
I think that is fantastic - and exactly what these were made for.

I had a very similar Rolex this time 2 years ago, and a similar GS earlier this year - both of which I offered to her in upgrade amd she turned down in favour of the Seiko.

hard to believe but for some people a watch is there to tell the time most of the time and it gets worn whatever they do. No taking off the DSSD in the shower antics for this lady.

When I was a teenager working in the local jewellery store replacing straps and changing batteries, some of the watches would be crawling - grose.
It made me very fussy about watch cleanliness.

When a watch is over a certain value or a significant cost for a person then they tend to get nannied. Im more comfortable in a £300 watch than a £3000 one and use the £300 one daily but leave the £3000 watch at home in a draw.

My dear wife is the same. Gawd bless her!

I just remove the bracelet and bung it in some washing up liquid overnight.

Mind you I do similar with most of the bracelet watches I buy second hand. Some are shocking.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

The habitual use of hand cream might have something to do with the problem. In my experience, the residue from the cream makes all kinds of crud stick and build up quite quickly on bracelets and cases.

Changed the battery on my dads seiko the other day, my god the bracelet was gross.
Think it was probably mainly soap scum where he doesn’t take it off when washing his hands.
Good scrub with a toothbrush and into the ultrasonic cleaner and it was as good as new again.

I have to wear various lotions and potions so get to clean my casebacks and bracelets very regularly. If nothing else, it makes it easy to spot anything wrong with the watch, while cleaning it.

My wife is just plain slack and uncaring with hers. So much so that I’m often close to tears when I see some of the dirt, grime and even, horror of horrors, marks (commensurate with the age of the watch? ) on her watches.

I was a bit disappointed, from the title I was expecting something far more exciting.
