Brandy, something a little different please

Every year I send my old boss a bottle of brandy/Cognac usually a Remy Martin or similar, in the £40-50 range. I see a few new brands on Amazon and I wonder if there is anything a bit less predictable and good quality that anyone can recommend?

I'm no brandy connoisseur, but Hennessy VSOP tastes good to me.

Go to https://www.masterofmalt.com/ and buy whatever Roger Groult calvados suits your budget. It’s the best calvados I’ve ever had.

My dad gave me a bottle this....Daniel Bouju Napoleon Cognac.
You can get it for around £50.
I’m not a big brandy or cognac drinker but I have to say I really like this one... very smooth with a lovely finish.

I’ve never got round to trying that, supposed to be good though, might I assume you were stationed in Germany in the ‘80’s?

Try an Armagnac this year. Plenty of decent choices in the £40ish range.

I'm with Lampoc, can't go wrong with a Bas Armagnac at around 40 quid.

I know it is not the same, but Somerset Royal Cider Brandy always has a place in my cupboard.
Anyone who can take a Somerset brandy to Paris and win awards ahead of the Normandy calvados producers gets a vote from me.
    I have the 10-year old, it's lovely

Grandpa used to say “Mine’s a Hine”

“What do you want for your birthday this year?”
    “A bottle of Hine”
“What would you want for your 100th birthday?”
    “A bottle of Hine”

    You get the message!

Thanks for the suggestions, there's a specialist whisky and cigar shop in town so in the spirit of shopping local I'll pop in tomorrow nd see if any thing from here is on the shelf.

Mentioned above already but do look into an Armagnac. It makes a lovely contrast to Cognac. I prefer Armagnac these days, its a bit more complex.

But they are very similar spirits.

cognac and armagnac are both brandys (one from cognac region and one from armagnac region) - pretty much like we have to call 'champagne' sparkling wine in this country (or prosecco /cava in others) - the only real diference is that cognac uses a pot still and armagnac a column still method of distillation - like any other spirit theres good and bad of both.
