A couple of new vintages - Doxa and Moeris.

As there is a dearth of vintage stuff on here nowadays, unlike in the past I thought I would post pics of two I bought yesterday.

I got them through a dealer pal of mine from a large lot offered.

    First off a Doxa.

Very unusual as it dates to 1949 but is very large for the time at 38mm which makes it eminently wearable today, in fact I have it on now.

A few stress fractures in what looks like the original crystal and the dial has aged beautifully.

The other one was a WWII issued Moeris ATP.

I've never really been interested in mil watches although I have owned a lot but this Moeris looked so nice with perfect blued hands and niceley aged lume.

The old strap looks like it may be original as well.

I'll never wear it but nice to go into the collection.

    Cheers,
    Neil.

Both really nice. I have mainly vintage and I prefer the discussion about them to be honest, and nice pics of course.

Much prefer a topic around vintage watches, the different movements and finishing even on the lower end stuff like Certina and Cyma makes the whole thing more interesting.

Both are very nice. I also prefer vintage watches, my newer more modern stuff just does not get worn anymore.
The ATP is in nice condition. I think that is the original strap. As a word of warning these Morris ATP are still highly radioactive (more so than other ATP). So if kept in a box make sure you vent it regularly.

The Moeris ATP is a gem and while I'm not usually given to envy I'm having a few twinges! Thanks for posting.

Thanks to those that showed interest.

When I first came on here (17 years ago!) the main subjects were vintage and Eddie sold some really nice older models himself through the site.

Personally I find vintage buffs are usually more knowledgeable about movements, history etc which make the discussions more interesting than, "I put my name on the list" or "I got the call".
    Cheers,
    Neil.

It's great to see you sharing your treasure trove and I hope it stimulates that kind of discussion.

The Doxa is of particular interest to me as my late father had a very similar one, which I regretfully sold in the very early days of eBay (nineties).

Glad you enjoyed seeing the Doxa Glenn.

That's the thing with vintage watches, they really are brilliant at evoking thoughts of the past.

Thank you, for some reason it’s a pita with imgur on my phone. Always wanted a vintage GP!

Both of those are delightful, Neil. I think the brassing on the Moeris case is quite typical but the dial and hands are in superb condition.
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

    Thanks.

I'm not a mil buff at all but have owned quite a few and I liked the quality of the hands/dial too.

    So many are horrible.

    That is really handsome.

I love the deco numerals, the chapter, the hands and the sub seconds.

Such a good looking and unusual watch.

Do you know any history? Why the observatory Hull?

    Any idea of its age?

    I would guess 1950's.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

I agree - it's a fabulous thing and having the local connection makes it even more so.
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

Actually 'FOND ACIER INOXYDABLE' refers to the case back only.
A lovely watch in very good if not excellent condition.

    Ah right, thanks.

Having a google it seems that the Kingston observatory was a shop that specialised in maritime instruments.

Lovely watches all in this thread, I too far prefer threads about vintage watches, seeing the same watches discussed over and over does become a bit dull. Variety is the spice of life.
