    Another Rolex value thread

After being a member for quite a few years but not a prolific poster, I know the sort of reaction a thread like this can cause.
Despite that, I'm looking for a bit of advice.

I was saving my GMT II to give to my son for a significant birthday, but he would rather have the money to use for a house deposit instead so I'm starting to think of moving it on.

Having not sold a Rolex for quite a number of years & out of touch with values & prices seem to be all over the place.

Mine is a 1998 U Series, complete with everything & last serviced by Rolex in 2015.

It could do with a polish & the insert is quite faded, or should it be left for the next owner to decide?

Any input on what it could be worth would is welcome, both positive & negative

    Thanks in advance
    Dan

You don't say which model, 16700 or 16710 etc. Prices can differ slightly as some prefer one over the other. I'm guessing a full set tritium dial has to be worth £9k in a private sale all day long.

Don't change the insert. If the buyer wants to do it, fine, but most collectors would just go looking for something like what is in already.

    Thanks for your reply, it's a 16710

I hope it isn't inappropriate to suggest you provide details to Watchfinder for a quote, which could provide a reasonable baseline guide (though goes without saying it would be better to offer it for sale here)

Leave consideration of a polish or bezel to the buyer to decide. Your son has the right priorities

Maybe one day we will come to our senses and ask why we were ever willing to pay so much money for a timepiece
