Purchase advice, Seiko 6309 or 6306

I’ve got an option on a turtle from a collector, and the choice is an original Hong Kong cased 6309, or a 6306 for £110 more. Normally this is a no brainer, it’s the 6306, but what is making me hesitate is a slight impact to the bezel between the 31/32 minute markers on the 6306. I’ve attached a picture

Can I have a TZ opinion as to which one? I’ve just had the email asking if I’m still interested, and as I courtesy to the seller, I don’t want to keep him hanging on

    Cheers

    Dave

The 6306 is worth many times more than the 6309 and this looks like a nice watch. What the asking price on the 6306?

The obvious answer is "6306 every day" and that seems to be a nice one. Assuming they use the same bezel I'd probably find a donor 6309, do a bezel swap and then move the 6309 on.

Currency converted about £610, but liable to import tax

The original 6309 £505, currency converted

Agreed, the bezel is a easy swap if you wanted to. That looks lovely.

My first 6309 was bought off eBay around 20 yeas ago, the bidding was fierce and I ended up the winner over 15 other people, at £55
    I still have it.

Personally prefer the Japan dial so that would swing it for me. Missed out on a 6306 a few weeks ago but it was the 7000 rather than a 7001 with the larger crown and limited production run in 76. Think that went for £800!!

Agree that the one in your picture looks a peach.

Purchase advice, Seiko 6309 or 6306

Mine, if it becomes so, looks like a May 77 7001, judging from the case back

My old one. Just to nudge him a little further in the right direction.

Just a possible word of caution, is the 6306 all original ? unless the crown has been changed it should be a course one and the crown cutout looks small compared to most 6306s more like the 6309 but neither queries are deal breakers.

I am always put off vintage if the hand lume doesn't match the hour plots (they can age differently) as in OP photo, but in theses times I would query whether the hands have been replaced, not a problem if the buyer is happy with this

    Here is mine

I’ve got lots of photos, and the lum tones vary with the lighting used.

No there won't be any import tax, but 20% VAT will be payable. (import duty and vat are not the same).

This is always a problem when buying from outside the EU (probably from anywhere outside the UK from January!).
VAT is the real killer for buying from abroad.
