    Nothing new, though, is it?

Keeping up with the Joneses, having the right car in the company car park, joining the right golf club, it's been going on as long as I can remember.

I quite like some of her videos, but I didn't bother with this one.

Bear in mind for watch content creators the majority of income is from sponsored content, not views as it's a small market, although CPM is no doubt high. Someone did make a video about that awhile back. Another good example is the credit card reviewers who make a shed load via YouTube despite a small audience. I don't know specifics, but she must have link ups with big brands through their other YouTube channels/endeavours, she managed to be the first of the private YouTubers to get an Odysseus pre-launch and that was her very first video. She also advertises expensive merch via the channel, again no way to know sales numbers.

Anyway long story short, I'd be surprised if she's not bringing in a decent pay check off this, but it is conjecture as I of course don't know her finances. Certainly the days of YouTubers, Twitch streamers, eSports etc being the domain of kids and people with nothing better to do are long gone, it's big business now!

Her YouTube channel has 111,000 subscribers. I wonder how much advertising income it equates to? And does she sell merch too?

Well, to echo some previous posters, Im hoping my wife exhibits the same gratitude when she unwraps her new iron, ironing board cover, apron, pan set and festive washing up gloves.

She has no need of a watch - I bought her a kitchen clock last xmas... ;)

Some are into it and enjoyed the video. Why would you prefer that it was kept private - given as you said, you ‘don’t have to watch it’. It seems a selfish attitude to suggest that only content you want to see should exist.

She’s a lucky woman. Your generosity has made me start questioning whether my wife will be happy with the new snooker cue and floor mats for my car that I’ve got her.

Using this calculator https://influencermarketinghub.com/y...ey-calculator/ the video has earnt her ~$300 and total earnings ~$27,000.

If correct, not big business for her.

Still, it's not to be sniffed at and the channel is relatively new.

I like her channel, she is a good presenter, her production is good and she's likable without any pretence. She'll be a lot bigger over the next couple of years, I don't think it's a stretch to say she will soon have the biggest Youtube profile of the watch mob.

Yea that website is nonsense to be fair. CPM varies massively depending on the subject content of the channel. Plus majority of YouTube income is not from the advertisements, but rather sponsorship, merch, paid content etc.

She’s recently got to 100k subscribers in a fairly short period of time, about 45 videos worth. There’s a lot of people doing watch content on YT these days, I think to be ‘big’ you either need to have got in on the ground floor a few years back, or have a bit of an angle. Being a prominent female vlogger gives her something different, plus the content and production is tight and she is very likable. For all his critics, the Urban Gentry has 450k subs, by far the highest among the YT watch club.

It's pretty dire, in my opinion.

What is it with this new youtube phenomenon, where a shedload of 'followers' watch some flunky's reaction to watching some classic Rock track for the first time (supposedly)?

Seems a large chunk of the population are more keen to see the flunky's reaction - than seeing AC/DC actually belting out Highway to Hell in concert.

Odd question, the first paragraph was an expression of my personal opinion on the video. The second paragraph was a recognition that it was just that, a personal opinion and that others may disagree. I don’t think I said it shouldn’t exist, rather that I would prefer a balanced watch review. There are a lot of things I don’t enjoy and would rather were kept private, I’m not sure that means I’m selfish. Still, I respect your right to have your own opinion.

Not bothered either way by this video, I didn’t particularly enjoy it but I wasn’t offended by it either.

That said, I think she’s really likeable and has good content on her channel usually. I hope she sticks around.

Well who knew this would prove to be so divisive. Personally, I found both the video & her to be 100% unaffected & adorable, and I think on balance the majority agrees. It's led me to watch her YouTube channel, which is also surprisingly good. There's a dearth of non-annoying watch YouTubers, so it's nice to see.

His views are tragic though considering his sub count. I used to enjoy TGVs videos. I don't know if it's the content that's changed or me, but I just can't sit through one now. It just drags on and on!

I'm glad someone remembered! (even if only ironically )

I'm still surprised the 'inappropriate' comment caused controversy to be honest. Always thought that was pretty much a given when someone makes unprovoked lewd comments about someone else's sex life, go figure

Giving a significant personal gift to your wife is a private moment, if you choose to pimp it out to the world for YouTube clicks you are bound to attract some unwanted or inappropriate comments. Right or wrong that is what is going to happen.

Oh, I thought they meant in response to the ironing board for Christmas! I'm obviously reading the thread in the wrong order!

(More seriously, the comment bought to mind the 'Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, know what I mean' sketch from Monty Python and reflected poorly on the poster, I thought - although I suspect she wouldn't be too phased by such a post given her youtube video on porn watches - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTOIYfhK_u0)

God, you're extravagant, doesn't the cooker have a clock?

Finally, I'm not sure I find anything on YouTube 'adorable' (well, maybe some kittens) as it's obviously done (or at least posted, her reaction may have been genuine and the filming not originally intended for public consumption, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt there) with intent.

Indeed what was once private is now made public, grist for the mill, and lets be honest she's easy on the eye in a girl next door kinda way and given her overly emotional reaction to hubby giving her a trinket I'd say the possibility of eliciting a certain degree of adult comment/conversation was factored into the whole production, good for more views. She and hubby are shills, selling on their own presentability, appeal/likeability, no judgement it is what it is.

It didn't cause controversy though, the only controversy was taken by you because of the original comment. Similar to you not being happy with the 'wife' comment in the 'end game' thread. A comment that I imagine everyone else took as tongue in cheek. Can you imagine on another forum (or even on here) there's a woman making a joke about a 'husband' and someone being unhappy about describing 'husbands' in that way?

The replies to both of your comments seem to be telling you to lighten up a bit. Far easier for you if you do. Otherwise just ignore the poster and move on.

I'd make a joke now and say you're Mary Whitehouse's child and I claim my £5, but I know that it would be inappropriate :-)

Folks, my barometer must be way off and it's a source of deepest regret, as it seems I've clearly misjudged prevailing mood here with my tacky and tasteless remark.

I put a 1 word comment and there's been what feels like a dozen responses and now even a t-shirt. So yes... controversy!

Evidently people are touchy about the subject. Notice I haven't attempted to ostracise anyone, I pointed out a comment was inappropriate - that's all. While I agree it probably would be easier not to say anything, that doesn't mean it's not worth saying.

Never heard of Mary Whitehouse, but let's not rule it out

You didn't point out anything. You gave your opinion. With a touch of pomposity too, which is perhaps what's prompted a few comments. You may also be mistaking controversy with mild amusement.

Oh, and you haven't said what size T Shirt?

All this traffic is exactly what the YT "stars" would have hoped to generate.

Personally I find it amazing that it is possible to make a living reviewing stuff on-line...

Edit: You know what mate, I'm editing my original response because there's no point continuing to escalate this.

I said it was inappropriate because I believe it was. Others are entitled to feel differently. In either case, it was nothing personal and my intention wasn't to insult you.

Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. It’s inarguable. It’s when an opinion is passed off as fact that Is unacceptable. In my opinion of course. Not that I believe Mike was doing that by the way. In my opinion the comment was funny. In Mike’s opinion it was unacceptable. No problem with that.

    We’re in the wrong job.
    Top you tuber earners 2020:
The highest earning Brit on the list comes in at number nine — five-year-old Gabriella has the potential earning power of £68,800 per video on her channel Toys and Little Gaby. She’s made an estimated £20.8m thanks to clips of her and her brother “unboxing” and playing with toys.

I'm sure Youtube will reduce and reduce the revenue so that they themselves get a bigger slice.

You are not wrong, however I find most of the popular stuff mindless. There is some great content on YT but I’m amazed by what is popular.

You can say the same about TV programmes, music and films, though.

I must admit, I watch a lot of Motorsport on YT these days as it's either not available on TV or is stuck on Sky Sports channels (which I won't pay for).

As someone said earlier the 'reaction' videos are absolutely incomprehensible to me, but they're everywhere!
