Thread: Dubois vs Joyce

    Dubois vs Joyce

Being a huge boxing fan this fight has really got my attention :)

Dubois is a young up and coming fighter, powerful jab and explosive right hand. Joyce has a good solid career, tough as old boots and keeps coming. His style reminds me of Foreman in some ways.

It has the recipe for a cracking boxing contest. I really do think it's 50/50 this one contrary what the bookies are saying!

    Exciting!

And there was me thinking this was going to be a literary discussion about James Joyce and WEB Du Bois...

    Should be good ?
    What channels it on ?
Also any good fights on the undercard?
    Joyce for me

DD early via KO / TKO or JJ on points or possible late TKO when DD is gassed.

I cant ever remember JJ getting knocked down, maybe he has an iron chin and will take the shots

DDD is very heavy-handed, it is hard to see past him getting this done.
Looking at some of his previous fights, he manages to get decent hurtful jabs straight though defence, which is a tough thing to do.
But the compulsive nature of Heavyweights is that the guys are big enough for one punch to change a fight in either direction.
    An interesting matchup

It's a great fight for both fighters and I also think its a genuine 50/50. DDD has the power and is bookies favourite but joyce is a former olympian who who is relentless. Joyce also looks very slow on tv but seems to have no trouble connecting with his opponent. I expect both fighters will be getting their chins checked tonight!

I feel a bit sorry for Joyce. He's being interviewed with frank warren and all they're talking about is how DDD can come back from the loss.

I can never warm to JJ, limited footwork and hardly no head movement- You can’t argue he got the job done tonight. Worrying for DDD, basically quitting, giving it the old ‘oh I’m up at 9 let me continue’ he just didn’t fancy it, end of- You can put a load of cannon fodder in front of him for the next few fights, but when he’s in trenches will he look for the easy way out again?

    You can’t teach heart.........

Joyce was class. Kept at that eye but, but I agree, Dubois basically quit. You wouldn’t see a world champion doing that.

Totally agree with Rob. I'd fear for Joyce in with a top heavyweight, they'd pick him off with ease and avoid the vast majority of his punches. He could end up taking a lot of punishment.

You could see Frank Warren was gutted last night, he knows JJ is limited, only so far he can go with him. DD was his next big cash cow, I know he’s young but not a great night for him.

I know I don’t rate JJ but still hats off to him last night, boxed to game plan and made good use of the tools he has, elite fighters would just toy with him though and Frank knows it.

Really bad time to show solidarity with the BLM movement.

I see from the news yesterday that DD has a broken orbit (eye socket), so perhaps less of a "quit" than many thought.
But that is not the type of injury that lets you carry on regardless afterwards, he will need careful work to bring him back.
    Good luck to him
    D
