If you could have any watch, what would it be?

I was asked this question the other day and was able to answer it with an immediate response. Style, heritage, finishing and unrecognisable to most of the population. Perfect for every occasion too. Unless I win the Lotto it'll never be achievable but that's OK, that's why we dream.

Simple three-hander with class in every design element and the work of art that is the bracelet! It has to be the VC Overseas ref 4500V/110A-B483.

    What would you have?

Any watch to add to those I already have?

Or any watch, but that’s it and I am stuck with the one I pick as an only watch?

Not because it's expensive, I could just look at it all day...

A Rolex explorer. A real one:-)
    Just kidding
I think some members are mistaking this thread for - if you could have only one watch, what would it be?

If money no object and I was limited to having just one watch it would have to be the Patek Aquanaut Travel Time 5164A-001.

I don't ever use chrono functions and don't dive but I do (or did) travel quite often so a gmt function would be useful for me. Also I haven't worn a suit since my wedding day 20 years ago & generally dress casual so this style of watch is perfect.

I always want the one that I can't buy...

I find this one quite beautiful.. I tried an earlier version on at DD''s last year... It really was quite something...

If it exists, I’d have a Seiko with a correctly aligned chapter ring

  17. #17
I would also choose a VC Overseas but the Ultra Thin (from 2016)

If money was no object I'd have to have a very long think. I imagine I'd end up with some huge gold Patek mega complicated watch and end up hating it

Actually I need to change that - for me it’s the Omega Aqua Terra in black, 38mm (current model). I’m making plans to get it next year so I think psychologically I felt I didn’t need to include it! But that would be my choice, with the Sub as second choice.

I am very lucky, I already have the one watch that I want above all others - Rolex 1655 Explorer11.

If money was no object it would have to be a Grand Seiko SBGD001 for me, Grand Seiko's are beautiful as it is and this is the best of the bunch

Probably this, because if it was my own money I was spending then realistically there'd always be something ahead of it in the queue.

Mine would be a full steel Daytona 16520 mark 1 with the porcelain dial, made in very small numbers for a very short period of time. Believed to be only a few hundred made.

New Rolex Sub at a retail price

    More realistically this one

Just a plain old three-hander Aquanaut would do me very nicely, thank you.

If just one, it would be a simple three hander, no dive bezel, water resistant enough to survive more than a day in the rain. It doesn't cost a gazillion quid, it isn't made of unobtainium. It can look good anywhere.

I happily already have it, the Explorer!

Or, goddammit, now I see the Aquanaut posted above and I want that too.

    A single watch?? You're a madman!

I’d be very happy with that one too.

Not really anything I crave but if money was no object and it was a gift.... A Rolex Daytona Paul Newman, cream dial with red chapter.

    Cheers,

I'm not sure what I'd buy but it would be great fun finding out.

Boringly predictably........... a standard Maxi dial 5513 sub, probably a type 3.

Don't think an Military issue or Comex version would be realistically wearable these days, although I am aware some do!

Indeed and very content, bought and sold many more motorbikes than watches in recent years!

Or from the same (ish) stable...

I'll give the same response that I gave the last time this came up... this is still my 'one watch'

    If you know, you know.

If it had to do absolutely every duty - a Submariner 14060 (non-date)

If it was every duty other than gardening and motorbikes - it would be a Dornbleuth.

That’s beautiful (as are most Credors) but unfortunately I’m nowhere near smart enough to wear one of those every day.

I’m more than happy with my 40mm Everest so much so that my 16710 and 16570 barely ever get worn these days.

It’s definitely not about the money for me.
