I’m aware of Gianni Agnelli wearing his watch like that - hadn’t seen the Lagerfeld pic before.

I watched a great documentary about gianni agnelli and they mentioned that he was the one that started the trend of wearing the watch on the outside of the shirt. Fashion designers like lagerfeld and Valentino admitted in the show that they copied this after seeing it on agnelli. He was also well known for wearing the thin bit of his tie longer than the wider bit
