    Ambilight TV any experience?

Does anyone have any experience with ambilight TVs?

Putting the ambilight feature aside the set I'm looking at ticks all the boxes but it's going into an enclosure so not much room round the TV. I can go 50" or 43", if I go smaller there will be more room obviously if the 50 is close to filling the enclosure will that cause problems?

So do I go 50" and turn the ambilight off or 43" and leave it on?

Ambilight is a great feature and certainly adds something in my view. I wouldn’t however get a smaller TV just to get the benefit.

I bought one a couple of years ago in the sales - have it in the corner of the study and the light is really good, not distracting as I suspected - I don’t even notice it now (I mean that in a good way!) - I set it to follow the picture colours and it just blends in tbh

Ambilight is great, but you need the space around it to get the benefit. As others have said, I wouldn't downsize the TV - even if you did, the light effect would stop abruptly due to the enclosure, and the idea is that it fades out gradually.

Love the Ambilight on our TV

Upgrading to OLED soon 50" is really max size I can go to in the space I have

So going for the new Philips 48" OLED 48OLED935
has the Bowers & Wilkins sound bar built in
    4 sided Ambilight

Bit expensive but watching TV more this year than ever so figure its worth it
RRP £1799 reduced to £1499.00 at Currys
I also get 7% off via my work discount site so £1,395

    Width: 1069 mm
    Depth: 261 mm
    Height: 717 mm

    Thanks chaps

This is only for a second room so doesn't need to be as good as that. I've got a proper setup in the front room but didn't dare go OLED as I didn't want the kids leaving it on pause and seeing SpongeBob burnt into the screen!

I'd marked up the space for either a 43 or 49 as I was just going to get another Sony but they seem very overpriced at the moment so I'm under the impression Philips is the next best for motion and colours.

Think if the 50 is bigger than marked up the ambilight will be next to useless so going 43Attachment 18524

I think the PHILIPS 50PUS7555 50" 4K Ultra HD HDR LED TV is a good deal at £319 or the 43" version at £289

From past experience I won't buy anything of proper value from Curry's.

Think I'm down to one of these

If I get the cheaper one I'll add one of the new Chromecast dongles

I’d be going for screen size over ambilight every day if the week & twice on Sunday.

I totally agree, however (against what some say) sometimes they can be too big. The max viewing distance will be 2.5m so 43 will be fine. Certainly better than me watching red zone on my phone!
