    Floor safe

Had a quick search and although there’s threads relating to safes I couldn’t find anything specifically for a floor safe.
I was looking at a small 10-12 ltr floor safe the kind you dig a hole and concrete in, was thinking about putting it in the floor of the garage but I can’t find any that are “fire rated” then I wondered if it really matters if it’s buried in a concrete garage floor even if the house burnt down it would probably all survive?
I want to put some documents and unspent holiday money etc in it so not looking for a huge rating cash wise just wonder if anyone has any experience with one.

Seems a lot of work for only a little cash to be stored in? Re fire protection I’d say in a concrete floor is fairly safe

There’s a safe specialist / seller who posts here on TZUK who is apparently very good ... can’t remember the name but someone will know who it is.

There’s been loads of safe threads here; have a search and I’m sure all the info you need will pop up.

Agree - cheap wall ssfe or even fire safe in the garage would do for that. If the house and garage burned down to that extent a few documents and holiday cash be least of your concerns too I think.

I've said it before - A safe in the garage, whether wall or floor mounted, is a good idea (especially if connected to house).

If wall-mounted - once it is bolted to the wall.......... fix a shelf underneath it, store some normal stuff on the shelf, and get a scrap microwave oven and strip out everything. Position the casing over the safe.

Floor mounted - I think you could end up digging out quite a hole to backfill with concrete. Most garages have very little substructure these days.

Remember - if you move house, you can take the wall-mounted one with you. The floor mounted one will probably be there for good.

My spare cash is buried in my front garden in a sealed pot. (The garden needs a good digging over!) :)

A friend of mine bought a house after the old man who lived there died - he decided to landscape the garden and it was full of little pots of money everywhere - some of which were very old bank notes...

Keep your eye out on eBay for a used one. Often they don’t fetch too much money, but obviously you need to budget in a courier especially if they are big and heavy.

That’s a nice find! Someone I know who does metal detecting recently found a very rare gold coin that is valued at £20k. He’s handed it to a museum I think. It must be very exciting digging up treasure!

If you are burying cash in the ground be aware it can get damp and mouldy. Drying out individual notes in an oven takes time. I had an elderly relative that did this.

Should be okay with new plastic notes.

Absolutely - old notes smell musty and have a powder coating when affected like that.
