Thread: Popular watches that don’t do it for you?

  1. #201
Modern IWC pilot watches - 3 hand or chronos.
Boring designs bordering on gaudy, ridiculous sizes, pedestrian movements, at eye watering prices.
The Germans (Sinn, Damasko et al) do this far far better.

Hublot generally, and AP Royal Oak. That big chunky look makes me vomit in my mouth.

Yes, my money would go on a German (Damasko or Sinn) over IWC.

Based on looks alone, regardless of quality or finish, the ones that don't do it for me -

Most Rolex, in fact oddly enough one of the very few I do like is the Daytona, but I have no desire for any others
    Almost all Panerai
    Any California dials
Most definitely all Richard Mille (not to my taste at all)
    Most Cartier
    Rectangular watches
    All Hublot
Most PP do absolutely nothing for me either.

Thank goodness we all have different tastes eh, or this hobby would be boring!

Probably an unpopular opinion but...I just couldn’t understand what the fuss over the Rolex Hulk was all about. Yes, it was a nice watch and my first Rolex but I still preferred my Omega PO and can’t say I miss the Rolex at all since I sold it.

It’s a good job choice is a personal opinion although I do wonder if any of the views would change if the poster actually owned one of the watches they cite as not doing it for them rather than hating them just because they have a view on the cost , trend or potential owner ....😉

    Well it’s a good point.
Pre Covid I used to go to Fellows a lot and got to try on loads of different models
Submariner 5513 - lovely looking but I got absolutely nothing out of it and felt underwhelming on the wrist
SM300 and the baby ploprof though were far more me

I know what you mean, I have had several watches that I have been interested in and once I have tried them on, I have thought NOPE, thats not for me at all. Others I have been unsure of or have actively disliked and are now firm favourites.

Yes, this happened with me and the Daytona many years ago (when they were more affordable, available and I might have considered spending that much on another watch!)

I'd bought my Cosmonaute and thought I'd try a Daytona (thinking I'd really like it, with it's links to motorsport), but it did nothing for me.
