Thinking about our longer-term plans and we've always talked about moving somewhere coastal in the UK.

We live on the south coast, just outside Eastbourne.
It’s the warmest and sunniest part of mainland Britain. Handy for getting over to the continent but a right pain getting to the rest of the country!
Where I live in North Devon is lovely. I’m about half a mile from the see. Stunning coastline and scenery. A lot of people relocate here, very few leave.
I could drop a pin anywhere on the coastline of Cornwall and be happy with my lot, however St Ives- Carabis Bay Area would be perfect
Scotland or Cornwall.
I grew up in Southend. Took the coast for granted while I was there, and missed it when I moved away.
Norfolk and Suffolk are lovely, and quieter than the South West of England. South West Wales is nice too.
Head would rule heart when choosing exactly where. As a lifelong urbanite, I think I'd struggle if I was too far from civilisation.

What is it about these places that makes you put them forward? Be really interesting to get into what's behind your choices.
The problem with retiring or living on the English coast is that the good towns are over run with cars and tourists in the summer. You can easily find a nice house but in the summer you will have tourists (grockles) swarming around by the thousand and they fill every inch of road with their cars. They just take over the place and it's bedlam.
Best bet is to go at least a mile inland and then it becomes a lot quieter.
The biggest gripe about the coast in one word: seagulls!

Coastal dweller here. Felixstowe. One of the driest places in the country (beats Eastbourne). Flanked by two estuaries this creates a dry micro climate with beaches and plenty of great walks to be had. Not the most scenic at the southern part of town due to whacking great container port but it’s quite easy to ignore if you turn your back and look up the coast
. Property prices not as mental as the capital glitterati hotspots of Aldeburgh and Southwold. 20 minutes to mainline station, 1 hour from there to London.

The drive up the coast road from Belfast has to be seen to be believed.
Sea on one side and mountains on the other.
The only downside is the summer starts and finishes around June 18th .
I’d second that; I am in Bournemouth, a few miles inland from the coast and regularly walk on one of the many beaches nearby.

As my wife observed the other day, and it’s not something that had really occurred; but I’ve spent most of my life living on the coast - childhood in the NW; then the last 20 years on the South Coast. Never felt any great affinity; but if I could buy a little plot and put a cabin there, I can think of worse places than Skye to retreat to.
Somewhere on or near the Solent - some of the best sailing (at least yacht racing) in the world. I like the Isle of Wight except that it's very crowded in summer and pretty dead in winter.
We've been looking on the Dorset coast, well one village really, for the last couple of years. It's silly expensive and stuff goes in a couple of days usually but I still want it!
I’m in East Lothian beside the sea and nowhere else I would rather be.
Lincolnshire or Norfolk for me. Just love the area, and there are lots of nice quiet places just a few miles inland if tourists bother you that much.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.
In terms of pros and cons I would choose Spain. Great country, friendly people, interesting culture and awesome climate. Moreover, at the moment due to all this situation with the financial crisis and with the virus local real estate market offers great value for money. I grew up in Poole - it really is lovely .
I’m currently in Hampshire and I’ve got a real soft spot for Southsea - there’s a vibrant indy bar and food scene along with an emergent art community . It’s still relatively cheap and housing stock is mostly the ever attractive Victorian terrace . Parking sucks though
Ranworth in Norfolk, not far from the East coast but mainly for the Norfolk Broads to relax on.
Problem is there are far to many nice costal areas around the UK, for me Northumberland springs to mind, as does south west Wales and various places running along the southern costal areas, such as Bournemouth.
Can just make out the coast from the head of our dale in the North York Moors and often pre-covid spend time in the Whitby area, just over half an hour drive away across the moor.
Barra in the Outer Hebrides.
But some great suggestions already, Oban, Cornwall, Devon, North Norfolk, Suffolk, Dorset and north or South Wales.
Personally I’m doing my utmost to get out to the Costa Blanca in Spain ASAP.
I'm a couple of miles from Lulworth cove and Durdle door, whilst the whole of the area is nice, if I was going to move to a coastal location it would either be North Devon or the Welsh coast somewhere near St David's.

Lol, they won't. Its right next to two existing ones.
I watched my parents house increase by 500% in a decade after they built sizewell-B (the building site was visible from my bedroom window) there is no hope whatsoever that sizewell-C will do anything but drive prices higher as more and more city dwellers throw in the towel.
It's still a lovely place to live though, although Southwold and aldeburgh are getting a bit 'samey' and look almost the same as any affluent tourist area high street.

Marske-by-Sea! this is where I lived as a kid. Great beach, never crowded and a short walk to Saltburn.
Voted one of the best beaches in the North.

Our home is in Ryde on the Isle of Wight. Can't recommend it enough (unless nightlife is your priority).
Bournemouth/Poole/Purbecks. Lovely beaches, coastal paths and Dorset countryside whilst not feeling like you live in the sticks. Even the train to London is just under a couple of hours.
If location really isn’t an issue, then Northumberland is a very overlooked area when it comes to countryside and coast and is beautiful. Growing up in Dorset though, it’s too far north for me.

Torquay is a favourite if mine and a place I have often thought I would like to retire too. Whitby on the East coast is another, along with Llandudno in Wales.
