    The Queens Gambit....

.... series on Netflix, anyone watching/watched it?

We finished it last night and although not really into the intricacies of chess I found it quite compulsive viewing.

    Definitely worth watching!

I thought it would be a non entity but I really enjoyed it, one of the best things I have seen on Netflix for a while.

    Same as you guys.

I binged it as it was so good. This was one of the best things I have seen in a while.
My missus asked me what it's about. When I said Chess, she turned her nose up at it :D

Yep. Finished it yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it.

It doesn't 'sell itself well' on paper, being about chess, but you don't need to be a chess fan to watch it.

Interestingly, I've had this recommended to me on two other (non-watch) forums and also Facebook today.

An enjoyable series which is visually very nicely put together. Well worth a look.

    Currently watching, and enjoying, it.

Stumbled across it, as others have said not very well 'sold'. Reminds me of Mad Men.

We watched it last weekend over a couple of days. Really enjoy it and found the main character quite endearing.

Would definitely recommend to anyone yet to watch this. The wife who doesn't know (or care to know) anything about chess loved it so that's definitely not a barrier for anyone sitting on the fence.

Watched over the last few evenings and really enjoyable so the previous recommendations were spot on in my view

I’ve watched 3 episodes so far and really enjoying it. I thought to myself last night, that nor the script or plot is particularly interesting, but there is something about the way it’s filmed and produced that makes it really nice to watch. I’m not sure if that makes any sense!

Started it last night and was pleasantly surprised how good it was. It’s more about her addiction than chess that I found interesting and the acting is pretty damn good

I wasn't interested until I saw this. I may give it a watch.

Started it on Friday and on around episode 5 now - really enjoying it. The production seems amazing (tbh I'm not sure how much is CGI - it's hard to tell the difference these days).

  26. #26
I just finished it after binging over the weekend and agree with the other comments, it's really good. Very well written, acted and produced. It's not the sort of thing that has lots of complicated layers of metaphor or obscure details that require another watch to absorb everything. Nor is it the sort of thing where you feel like you just wasted several hours on something completely mindless.

    Just finished it, superb.
Anyone else think the BBC commentator in episode 7 sounded like Anthony Hopkins?

I loathe chess but enjoyed watching this series over the course of 3 or so days. Well recommended although I thought the ending a bit odd.

I thought the ending was superb, - she finally found some peace through her battle with mental health.

    Wonderful series.

Just binged watched it over 3 nights. Outstanding, the best thing on TV for ages.

Great show, really enjoyed it. I was surprised to read it was originally planned for 2008 and was meant to be Heath Ledger's directorial debut but was shelved after his death.

If there is a season 2 I'll definitely watch it.

That was a series never to be repeated, it was so good that like many it would be watered down by a follow up but I’d be delighted to be proved wrong by them delivering another.

Must say I was anti TV and the idea of Netflix (as just thought it’d be all recycled rubbish) but Netflix has been really good. My GF has it and you get a few available log ins so I can just use her password at my house.

My only issue is I’ll often not be able to stop watching a series. It’s not like being drip fed on TV, you get your next fix dangled at the end of the current one. In fact I’ve just thought, it should have been called Net-fix.

End of the fkin world is another good one.

Yes, I would love to see how Beth continued with her life, - did she stay in Russia? But from what I've read, there definitely won't be a second series.

I hope the series inspires more people to take up, or return to chess, - I have been playing on and off all my life, - I brought a couple of new chess books at the beginning of the March LD and have been back into it since, - fascinating & exhilirating game

Binged it, loved it, since bought a copy of the original book by Walter Tevis.
To echo the above I've also started to play again as a result. Only against the computer, there are some very good programmes online.
