God speed sir Connery ... we didn’t expect you to die just for the record
Absolutely amazing actor, would it be wrong if I suggested he was better in hunt for the red October and the untouchables

There are nearly as many threads about Sean Connery today as there are about Rolex, which is a good thing.

Yes and Connery wore a Rolex in his Bond films, so win win all round

But sad news indeed for the great man.

Is it safe to say that a good percentage of people on watch forums are undoubtedly originally had their interest peaked by a bond watch or became entrenched in the hobby because of it or at least the Golgfinger bomb scene I'm probably one of them. This was the man whose on screen watch started it all for the go to tool watch (Fleming explorer aside)

From originals to homages, debates and discussions raging over NATO strap colour or RAF one pieces of incorrect widths sizing.

It should be fitting we hail him as a hero even if he didn't give a monkeys about the watch.

I'm sure over on the swimming costume forums they are commemorating him also for the terry towelling onesie.

It wasn't just the bond stuff for me his turn in Highlander as Juan Sanchez Villalobos Ramirez had some great moments. From his opening narration-

" From the dawn of time we came; moving silently down through the centuries, living many secret lives, struggling to reach the time of the Gathering; when the few who remain will battle to the last. No one has ever known we were among you… until now."

    To the cosmic ponderings-

"Why does the sun come up, or are the stars just pinholes in the curtain of night?

Not exactly works of Shakespeare but his charm carried them off well .

Certainly my idol growing up, I remember watching all the movies he was in not just the Bonds, very sad news, if anyone reading this hasn’t seen ‘The Rock’ I would highly recommend it.

This week I will wear my BB58 with a single pass Bond strap to pay homage to this great actor.
    Rest In Peace Mr Connery.

Yes- one or two ‘tributes’ in the media have actually been honest and implied that he was not a very nice bloke.
Apparently on several occasions he completely battered his first wife.

RIP indeed to a great actor, and the reason many people were introduced to Rolex.

One of my favourite memories was him replying as the 200 year old Spaniard to the question posed by a baddie; “WHOSE IS THE WOMAN?”
in broad Scotts he says, “ she’sh minessh”

    His forte was never accents.
    RIP

And all the drivel about his “beloved Scotland”. He buggered off at the first opportunity and never went back. Mind, the weather we’ve had here over the weekend, I’d rather be in Nassau too.

Personally I don't think he was a ' great' actor but yes a good one. He had some great roles to play , obviously Bond but Red October was way better for me.

I think he fitted in just perfectly for the time and roles that where around at the time. The Indiana film is a perfect example.

But its always very sad when a well known figure passes on.

Certainly wasn't was it. But the great thing was he played himself. He was more the star , than the actor.

A bit like Roger Moore in that respects the name came before the workmanship. No wonder they were actually pals .

Allegedly he phoned that it from his hotel bathroom, hence the echo. Great film

Possibly my favourite line is from The Rock - the one about losers and the prom queen!

    RIP Sir Connery

What a fantastic actor, loved him in The Untouchables and of course one of my all time favourite films - Hunt for Red October. Only Sean could get away playing a Russian submarine Captain, with a Scottish accent.LOL
