I like that better than the 'Paul Newman Daytona'.

Not that it's relevant as I need to MOT my car next month, so I'll have to skip submitting a bid

Why not walk/ride a bike for a month and get your bid in?

Two months if need be :-)

Silly price to pay for a watch. Personally if i had that cash spare it would be spent on charity.

How many Daytona's does Paul Newman own??!

The one in 2017 was THE Paul Newman 'Paul Newman' and fetched $17,752,500.

Paul Newman’s Daytona is for sale ....

Funny how Ben Clymer and co at Hodinkee salivating over anything Paul Newman. I’m around the same age as clymer and I don’t have any recollection of how cool this celebrity was.

I was thinking that. Wasn't the one you referenced put up for sale by the family with 100% provenance.

Ironically if you read the article you'd see by buying this watch you would be spending your money on charity...

Maybe they are running some kind of Ponzi scheme and will wheel out a new Daytona of his every couple of years?

Next they’ll be selling Henry V111 day date on jubilee :-)

What is the closest non-Rolex homage to a 6263 in current production? Would it be the Alpha?

I guess you don't know much about him then.

Then again coolness is probably in the eye of the beholder.

I’m 39 and to be fair he was cool and thoroughly decent human being. He did loads for charity and years before it became en vogue he gave up some of his salary so his female co-star would get equal pay.

Sounds a great man, I’ve never been in to celebrities I guess but for those who are super fans of Paul Newman and vintage rolex, this could be their dream watch. If all proceeds go to charity then only a good thing and I hope it goes for more than the 50x the price of a normal 6263 red, given what Hodinkee predicts.

All profits from the Newman's Own food brand he set up go to charity, and that's over $500M now. Five hundred million dollars.

To say he was a hero is an understatement. Oh and probably the handsomest bugger to have ever lived.

All the proceeds are going to charity so I guess in a way the buyer is giving his money to charity.

Don't think I'll bid tho. I'm just a few million short

This. A huge personal hero of mine. What an actor! Add to that race car driver, philanthropist, and by all accounts a damn decent guy. I never get upset when celebrities die, but his death really hit hard. Now if I only had a few million quid kicking around...

Interesting to see how end this auction... another dance of millions, incredible. Without the “Actor intangible part”, how much cost really the 2 watches?

I agree, I seem to remember the last one was owned by his son in law and Newman had worn it every day before gifting it to him. Now it’s one Newman’s wife gave to him and he wore it everyday until he gave it to his daughter, or something...

He must have had a watch on each arm. I wonder if later we’ll find out he used to wear articulated trousers made of Daytona’s which were strapped together by interlacing dozens of Bund straps. He wore these trousers every day while working in his salad dressing workshop until he gifted each Daytona to a different member of his family so that they could each take turns at selling them for millions of dollars at auctions in the 21st century.

I’d put in a bid for a pair of Paul Newman Daytona trousers.

The grey market premium on those is going to be through the roof!
