    What LED?

    Hi

Time has come to replace a load of low voltage downlights - about 30 in all - with 50W equivalent LEDs. I have someone coming to repair a ceiling after a recent leak so thought I'd wrap the light change into the same job - otherwise I'll still be waiting for myself to do it in a years time.

I know we've discussed this on here before, but my search is not producing much in the way of results so thought I'd ask again.

    So here's what I'm after:

    - 50W equivalent
    - GU10 fitting
    - Dimmable (for some at least)
    - Warm white
    - 300k colour temp
    - Need to fit into an existing downlight

The ones I bought for the kitchen a few years ago were Next Gen Series III from Simply LED but they don't seem to do those anymore. These had a 60 degree angle, the ones I've seen today all seem to about 38 degrees - does it make much difference?

The dimmable ones will be used with a V-Pro dimmer as I've used those before and they're pretty good.

So, what brands would you recommend? I was thinking of Philips this time round. Something like this - https://www.ledbulbs.co.uk/products/...mable-72139100 - just because its a known brand.

Also, will need some mains downlight adaptors.

    Thanks

Yes, we have something similar in our bedroom. But for this job, I just need the bulbs as we're keeping the existing downlights and just changing the lamp holder cable and the bulb.

Actually, just found these on the same site -https://www.ledbulbs.co.uk/products/aurora-enlite-5w-led-gu10-par16-warm-white-dimmable-en-dgu005-27

They have the 60 degree beam angle. The non-dimming ones are 300k, whereas the dimmable ones are 270k. Will I notice the difference in real life?

Rako lighting is all retro- fit and are great to use with existing lighting using dimmable in line ballasts. Scene lighting from their touch switches.

We’ve got Aurora 6W or 7w LED bulbs in the kitchen and are more than happy with them. I did have to change the housings and remove all the old transformers though.

We’ve got dimmable LED in our extension but they still seem to flicker at lower lights.

In our kitchen I’ve replaced 6 GU10 bulbs with LEDs twice and they’ve stopped working both times. The second was Philips. They’re meant to last for 15000 odd hours but clearly they don’t.

    Maybe I’m just unlucky

I have had the best results with the Soraa Vivid series lamps.

OP says he wants to replace low voltage (I assume 12V), so will need to replace the whole downlighter fitting with modern 230V fittings, rather than just change the bulb?
