    Smiths Astral Repair

Hi lovely people, please can I a ask for your advice. I have a Smiths Astral in lovely condition but it does not run. It used to run upside face down but has completely stopped now. I am looking for a repair but can’t justify spending a lot, any recommendations or help would be greatly appreciated. It’s a shame to keep in a drawer unworn. Thanks Ian

Looks like it has the cal. 6046xE movement. Possibly the 27CS but probably not.

These are simple enough and any competent watchmaker should be able to repair it.

(If it has the blue h/s then it's got the higher spec military movement, as per the W10, and is very nice; even if not these are great -- robust and accurate and well-made if a little basic.)

Speak to Brian at Time Repairs Ltd in Chadderton, he's serviced some of my watches and I've been happy with the work.

Alternatively, you could PM Paul Walker (walkerwek1958 on this forum) to see if he can help you. HTH.

Give Tim Hamit at ALSAL Watches in London a bell. He's just completed work on my Smiths. He / they ALWAYS do a fantastic job and go that little bit further.

I would highly recommend ALSAL to anyone.

Thank you folks, Rev-0, It does have the blue hairspring, glad to hear it has a similar movement to the well made W10. It is lovely looking. See photo below. RickS thanks for the Time repairs recommendation. I live in Oldham so will get in touch with Brian as you suggest.

Is there a two (or possibly three) digit number near the balance? If so, its a date code: m(m)y

    So eg 68 = June 1968
