Games that you can play forever...

Not talking just about games with good replay value - but those that are made in a way that you can always return to them to do something.

Today I was thinking about how few Pokemon titles that I played seemed like they didn't end even after defeating champion, almost like every Pokemon game is designed to last enough until new one is out.

What would you recommend that is good to play for a while?

In my case it is WoW. Actually this is the 1st serious game I have ever played. Regularly playing different gaming masterpieces of different genres I still return to WoW :) Sometimes it can seem extremely difficult but after some time all its missions can be passed with the help of pro gamers :)

Civ 4 ‘One more turn’. So many late nights and 4 am finishes playing this. I have the game purchased on a whole bunch of platforms now. Just not enough time to do it justice these days.

Sniper elite 4. Although the vehicles are always in the same place you can play each map a load different way's every time.

Command and Conquer Red Alert and Red Alert 2. The sort of game you start playing and then look up and it's already morning.

Agree with Borderlands. Also Diablo 3, Skyrim, Project Cars 1 & 2, Gran Turismo (any of them really), I’m sure there are more but those have kept me going for years.

This game has had huge replay value for me. I rarely play solo anymore, but give me a good co-op... I usually play Survival these days. A great game IMO. That said I don’t think it’s quite good enough to play forever, as in the thread title. It’s good as long as there’s an online function and enough players to make finding a nice game reasonably easy.

Board game Quarto is a game I could imagine playing forever

I cannot wait to play Demon's Souls again. I have the 19th November booked off work to collect my PS5 and Demon's Souls.

But yes, your answer to the OP is valid.

    I'd add/vote also for:

    Ghost of Tsushima
    Red Dead 2
    Any of the Borderlands
    The Witcher 3

All have great replay value or at least can take forever to truly complete, particularly The Witcher, get that with the expansions and you'll sink many many hours into it.

Modern Warfare is one that it’s looking like will take forever to unlock everything with the ~20 mins / month I’m currently able to get on it!

I'm trying to unlock MW guns through the free-to-play Warzone! I have more time to get on it but probably taking as long as you to do it with free multiplayer every 2 months or so.

Since lockdown I've been going back to a mobile game called Out There: Omega. It's a resource-management strategy game that is notoriously difficult. I had been trying to get at least 1 ending in the last few years. However since I played it more this year, I've managed to unlock all 5 endings

Back in the day Borderlands 2, Diablo 3 and Fallout 4 sapped a lot of my time as well.

The only reason I have kept a dusty PS2 about! I'm currently working my way through all 105 "skirmish" maps on Retaliation.

Modern stuff... any farcry or fallout for me, I can dip into those whether I have an hour spare or a full week!

I probably play through the campaigns on all the Halo games on legendary at least once every two years .

In lockdown I was doing it co-op with a mate which was a lot of fun except Halo5 which is notably lacklustre compared with the others.

Correct answer in the first reply, I think. Skyrim, and the Fallout games - when I think if the value for money I've for from those games...

You're in dangerous territory. If you think it might be your type of thing, throw it away or you'll suddenly find it's 8am tomorrow morning and you have to go to work.
