    Heuer Monaco blue

Can you lot help me out here?
A good friend is thinking about buying a Heuer Monaco “McQueen “
Despite a 35 year interest In watches, I have to say I’ve never really liked them personally ( don’t know why really) therefore not really up on them at all.
So where to look, what to pay, what to look out for etc
Any well known and recommended resource, specialists?
    TIA

You can sometimes find them on the sales section of onthedash. It's worth reading up on them here:

    http://www.onthedash.com/watches/reference-1133/

I'm rather partial to the 1133G - a little cheaper and with that lovely brushed dial some manufacturers played with in the late 1960s/early 1970s.

If your friend is after a TAG-Heuer Monaco I can't help, it's all a bit too naff for me. The drivers at the time didn't like the Monaco and McQueen only wore it because it looked different. Why after choosing to copy Jo Siffert's overalls he didn't also copy his watch and wear an Autavia no one will know. There've been loads of them on here over the years though, a few minutes' searching SC could give you a few answers.

Thanks for that! I’ll take a look.
He’s definitely not after anything TAG-Heuer and I’m with you on the style vs Autavia!

One of the main things to look out for is dial condition. The gaskets used to melt and cause damage to the dial edges; always a good idea to get a picture of the dial/movement out of the case.

I would say the Calibre 11 would suit him. It hasn’t got TAG Heuer written on the dial. Just Heuer. New they are about 4-5k unless you buy from Chrono 24 and get a grey import for about 3.8k.
The Calibre 12 I think has been discontinued but had TAG written on the dial.
I would love an original Monaco but they are way beyond my reach.

People love to hate/ dislike tag as discussed in a thread a couple if weeks ago. Way too consumer for most watch snobs. I like the Monaco.
My lovely Calibre 11 is shown here:)

I've had my Calibre 11 for 8 days & worn it every day, I absolutely love the look, having only owned round watches before. I got it from Fraser Hart at a 12% discount & I'm delighted with it.

A thing of beauty! Is that a Tag bracelet? I’ve not seen it before?

It’s a bracelet from watchgecko . It was only £28.00. Out of stock now but no doubt it will return.

Quite recently I helped a friend source a brand new Heuer Monaco Calibre 11 from an Italian dealer on Chrono24 at a discount in excess of 30%.

So that would be my suggested route.

Can be had for about 3.8k new on chrono 24 .
No options for credit if you go that way though if you haven’t got that sort of wedge hanging about.

Thanks for the replies so far and the links
Knowing the buyer, I suspect only original watches front the 70’s will be of interest to him.
I don’t think he’ll be interested in a modern watch,

If I had the money I’d go original too. Hope he gets a goody. Let us know:)
