    Nintendo Game & Watch

Those of a certain age will remember these....possibly still have one or two?

It might interest you to know that Nintendo are releasing a Super Mario Bros 35th anniversary Game & Watch...just like then old days!

I have to say it’s quite tempting!

I’ve still got a few in the back of a cupboard I get out and play now and then.

Amazing I used to love that first donkey kong one you’ve posted a photo of! Spent many many hours playing that, and I still remember my dad making me give it to a family friend that also really liked it I was so upset, not sure I’m over it thirty years later..
    And yes very tempting !

Hmmm...tempting but the reality is, you'll play it for 10 minutes before it goes unused forever more. Retro games are fun for a very limited amount of time when the nostalgia hit wears off. Better to emulate them on your computer for 10 minutes before never playing again.

    It’s not the same though

Thanks for the heads up! I’ll be ordering one of those. I hope they bring back Donkey Kong also.

I still remember the excitement I had waiting for my birthday to come around so that I’d get my hands on this...

Loved that game. Might have to track one down.

If you want handheld retro gaming, I’ve just ordered one of these:

I still have Lifeboat. Great game. I used to have DK3 but lost it a few years ago. I might have to purchase the 35th anniversary for nostalgias sake!

Ordered mine a few weeks ago, that’s Xmas sorted!

Got a Donkey Kong II in a cupboard somewhere, from my childhood.

    It's tempting...

    I used to love them.

Also Manic Miner - can’t remember if that was on my zx81 or spectrum.

It was definitely available on the Spectrum, I was on a Commodore 64 and there was a level that was almost impossible to get past but ran far easier on the Sinclair iirc. Not sure if the ZX81 had the grunt?

    Retropie

£40 for a raspberry pi , install retropie , grab your roms , use a modern gaming controller.

You have everything you need to emulate any popular gaming system or home computer from the atari vcs up to the N64.

    A nice little weekend project

Did it last weekend. The boy and I really enjoyed doing it together. He'd received a Pi kit for his birthday. It has sat unused for a while as I don't have a compatible monitor. Sorted that out last week and also bought two cheap SNES style controller.

Lots of fun, plus a bit of learning along the way. Trying to remember a few Unix commands, setting up SSH, etc. End result was some Street Fighter goodness.

The ZX81 didn’t have the capacity to anything. I had one with a super doopa 16k plug in rampack. I used to spend ages typing in programmes only for a sparrow to fart three streets down which would cause the whole kit & kaboodle to crash.

I used to lust after a game and watch as a kid but somehow never got one.
I did have a few of the grandstand ones though, Astro wars, caveman and munch man.
Then just about every video game console ever released but don’t play at all now.
Surprisingly my wife came complete with 2 game and watches!
    Cheers,
    Rob

Forgot, I do still have a ZX81 up in the loft in full working order.
And Nintendo are bringing out a new game and watch next month with a colour screen and Super Mario Bros installed!!
I won’t be able to see the screen though!

Do you know I wasn’t aware of this at all. It’s a good job you said otherwise I might have missed it.

I saw it on Facebook from the Nintendo store.
I think it was £45 if I remember.
It’s not the first of April is it? I need to investigate myself now...

Ah, i used to love these

I had the fireman one, where you bounced people jumping from a burning building into the back of an ambulance and also a double screen one where you were in a greenhouse and had to keep caterpillars and spiders off your plants. Mate had donkey kong and that was ace

It just seems like an enormous waste. It is a single use device, whereas any of the many Gameboy clones allow more than two games to be played.

    Looks good admittedly.
