Thanks for that. Very "Rolex". Excellent photos - any reason for sitting in a car to photograph it?

No other reason except that I've found out that I always get the best quality wrist shots in the car. The car works like a lightroom / lightbox. Try it sometimes. :)

    Thanks for the comments, all.

Rolex Day-Date 40mm yellow gold watch porn review. ?

For me, white gold every time. It’s so much more elegant, less ‘shouty.’
Yellow gold for hot climates whiie wearing tropical shirts. Or if you’re Tony Soprano.
Nothing like a few good cliches.

White gold - never thought of this model in this material it’s actually very nice!

It shines a lot more when the sun hits it right?

It shines in the sun, but then so does steel. It’s a very slightly darker colour, but not easy to distinguish from steel until you have been able to compare them. I just prefer white gold, and it’s more popular these days. Just fashion really.

Agree that the YG requires a certain personality to pull off, and I don't think that is me. I do lust after a WG DD. I think it is very elegant and classy. If you know, you know. Otherwise can fade away as any other steel watch to the non-WIS.

However, tried one and just feel the 40mm DD is a little bulky looking. A little like the DJ2 is now vs. the DJ41. Just a little bloated. Maybe it is just me and maybe I need to try one again as this was some time ago.

I thought gold watches had their peak in the 1980's.

As much as people say they dislike gold watches in these forums there must be a reason why majority of new Rolex releases have precious metal in them. Somebody is buying these... maybe not the WIS but the "general public". So gold is probably not as "unfashionable" as we think.

Does anyone have a green dial version?

I think the green dial (olive) only comes on the DD40 Rose gold version and it is a great combination!

I have seen some older DD36 with a nice sunburst green dial but I am not sure if they were factory or custom dials.

For the yellow gold lovers I think a DD40 with sunburst green dial or sunburst blue dial would look very nice.

The blue dial on the white gold DD40 looks amazing!

Olive green is indeed only on the DD40 but in rose gold, white gold or platinum, not yellow gold.

I’ve had one; be careful with this dial. The Roman figures clutter the dial and the green colour makes the time quite hard to read in poor lighting. If you are young, with good eyesight, fine, but otherwise try this watch first, before buying.

That’s a nice photograph. Such a beautiful, elegant watch. Can’t beat a DD40; the product of a steady refined evolution over decades that has reached near perfection. If I had to strip my modest collection down to one watch, I’d keep the DD.

I’d guess most DayDate buyers are hardly spring chickens. The Roman numerals look good but they crowd the dial and have no lume. The ‘stick’ symbols are less cluttered and do have lume. I think it’s important to try these dials, preferably in poor light.

Day-Dates and top-of-the-line Jaguars (and Mercedes-Benzes) are always labeled as "old man watches" and "old man cars". But that's because old men are the only ones who can afford them. Haha. :D :D

It’s a very valid point and the only reason I bought the baton (lumed) dial over the Roman numerals, which I actually preferred the aesthetics of.

That or maybe it takes maturity to appreciate finer things and to develop the confidence to make one’s own choices free from the influence of the great unwashed. ;-)

I fear you'll be disappointed then, as it looks nothing remotely like that 'in the flesh'.

Because (to my eyes) that particular photo makes the Everose look like Michael Kors pink gold, and it looks nothing like that hue in real life.

Yes that actually looks like pink gold in the picture.

It's probably a bit garish for a man but it's still stunning. I just wouldn't want to wear one though. Kudos to people who could pull it off.

These are lovely looking watches but unfortunately are easy to identify and are right up at the top target of the Rolex Ripper mob. I would only wear one if I had a 18 stone minder walking beside me.

That was an interesting video on the gold value content of a DD. I was surprised to see that the spring bars were included in the weighing as if made of gold, they'd surely be less robust than the usual steel ones?

Less robust yes but won’t damage the spring bar holes on the case with steel being harder than gold.

The Everose looks great on my skin tone- I think I’d need a very deep tan to carry off the yellow gold one.
It's just a matter of time...

I think the champagne dial is the traditional and the actual "classic".

The silver dial is pretty stunning though (picture is a web find).

I really like the contrast of the black motif dial which gives the DD40 a more casual appearance.

I have to agree that the earlier lighter Champagne coloured dial is to me the best and original.
However both the Silver and Black dials look stunning.
    Congratulations to you both.

    Nice thread here.

I believe the DD bracelet has come a long way in recent years. Not sure when the change happened exactly, but I believe DD bracelets now have ceramic casings around each of the bracelet link pins to stop future bracelet stretch. Yes the bars themselves are gold. It means adjusting the bracelet is a bit of a pain as not only do you need to fit the pin, but need to ensure you get the casing around the pin and hold it all in position. I am definitely an amateur so take that with a pinch of salt, I am sure a pro would handle it no issues.
