Not much of a review but I tried to capture this beauty to photographs. Enjoy!
Review of Rolex Day-Date 40mm Yellow Gold Ref. 228238
Lovely watch👍. #1 gold watch, IMO.
The word is: Elegant. Thanks for sharing

Thanks for that. Very "Rolex". Excellent photos - any reason for sitting in a car to photograph it?
Great watch, has a great presence.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.
Was watching VICE (movie) last night and that’s his watch! Very nice shots thanks for sharing!

For me, white gold every time. It’s so much more elegant, less ‘shouty.’
Yellow gold for hot climates whiie wearing tropical shirts. Or if you’re Tony Soprano.
Nothing like a few good cliches.

Yellow gold for people who like yellow gold. I have always worn a yellow gold necklace so very much attracted to yellow gold watches! Beautiful watch OP! Congratulations on owning one!!

It shines in the sun, but then so does steel. It’s a very slightly darker colour, but not easy to distinguish from steel until you have been able to compare them. I just prefer white gold, and it’s more popular these days. Just fashion really.
Very 1970's watch porn.....not a fan of gold watches😁
Agree that the YG requires a certain personality to pull off, and I don't think that is me. I do lust after a WG DD. I think it is very elegant and classy. If you know, you know. Otherwise can fade away as any other steel watch to the non-WIS.
However, tried one and just feel the 40mm DD is a little bulky looking. A little like the DJ2 is now vs. the DJ41. Just a little bloated. Maybe it is just me and maybe I need to try one again as this was some time ago.
I thought gold watches had their peak in the 1980's.
As much as people say they dislike gold watches in these forums there must be a reason why majority of new Rolex releases have precious metal in them. Somebody is buying these... maybe not the WIS but the "general public". So gold is probably not as "unfashionable" as we think.
I think the green dial (olive) only comes on the DD40 Rose gold version and it is a great combination!
I have seen some older DD36 with a nice sunburst green dial but I am not sure if they were factory or custom dials.
For the yellow gold lovers I think a DD40 with sunburst green dial or sunburst blue dial would look very nice.
The blue dial on the white gold DD40 looks amazing!

Interesting video. DD40 was used as an example.
How Much Gold is in a Gold Watch?
Day-Dates and top-of-the-line Jaguars (and Mercedes-Benzes) are always labeled as "old man watches" and "old man cars". But that's because old men are the only ones who can afford them. Haha. :D :D
Found this on the net. Rose gold DD is well... "rich". What do you think, it's rarely seen?
Yes that actually looks like pink gold in the picture.
It's probably a bit garish for a man but it's still stunning. I just wouldn't want to wear one though. Kudos to people who could pull it off.
These are lovely looking watches but unfortunately are easy to identify and are right up at the top target of the Rolex Ripper mob. I would only wear one if I had a 18 stone minder walking beside me.

This combination would be my choice.
It is the nearest to my favourite and first DD the 18038
There's an article on DD's on Fratello today

That was an interesting video on the gold value content of a DD. I was surprised to see that the spring bars were included in the weighing as if made of gold, they'd surely be less robust than the usual steel ones?

Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations
The Everose looks great on my skin tone- I think I’d need a very deep tan to carry off the yellow gold one.
It's just a matter of time...
I really like the contrast of the black motif dial which gives the DD40 a more casual appearance.

I have to agree that the earlier lighter Champagne coloured dial is to me the best and original.
However both the Silver and Black dials look stunning.
Congratulations to you both.

Beautiful watch, for me DD has to be YG. Just so damn classic.
Nice thread here.
I believe the DD bracelet has come a long way in recent years. Not sure when the change happened exactly, but I believe DD bracelets now have ceramic casings around each of the bracelet link pins to stop future bracelet stretch. Yes the bars themselves are gold. It means adjusting the bracelet is a bit of a pain as not only do you need to fit the pin, but need to ensure you get the casing around the pin and hold it all in position. I am definitely an amateur so take that with a pinch of salt, I am sure a pro would handle it no issues.
The bracelet is very special indeed.
